Cross country skiing (Skate skiing) 1:30:00 [1] 10.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

No idea on the distance skied. Felt tired and worn down. Skied at Pittsfield SP, and trails basically either go up or down the mountain there, so I felt tired on the way up, and then froze on the way down. Got in 1:30, knew I was supposed to get in more, but I was so cold, in pain, tired, and instead I slept in the car for the next hour while Brian skied some more. I don't often cut workouts that short, but I felt so crappy that I decided to listen to the body and not push through it for once. With the stress of the weekend (and my car!), I think it took it's toll on my body.

Saturday Jan 9, 2010 #

Snowshoe (Snowshoe Race) 1:10:00 [4] 6.0 mi (11:40 / mi)

Easy warm-up of 1/2 mile (car broke down on the way to the race), then did the 5 mile race with tons of climbing and loose snow - 1 hour, then 1/2 mile warm-down. Felt ok during the race, but didn't feel in the zone (i.e. warmed up) until about 1/2 hour into the race. Was glad to survive and still do pretty well considering the conditions I raced in!

Easy 9 mile run to take my mind off the horrible morning and snow shoe race. Felt good to blow off some steam. Slipped around a bit on the snow, but enjoyed the beautiful day.

Easy run through Holyoke w/ Abby and Kim. Felt good - very pretty with snow showers during the run.

Easy run behind my house - to Town #2 and back. Felt great, but a bit sluggish on hills in the last half hour. Had a wonderful run on my own - the first in a long time!!!

Running (TM workout) 1:00:00 [2] 7.3 mi (8:13 / mi)

Easy pace on TM, and increased to 6% grade every 1/2 mile. Felt like an 'easy' workout, and helped the time pass by with the increase in incline from time to time. Felt great during this workout.

Decided to mix it up and warmup on elliptical machine (so boring and unnatural for me, won't do that again!). Then, did normal lifting routine with abs.

Easy run w/ Abby and Brian in Northampton, from Smith College up bike path, around Look Park and back. Felt good and legs turned over nicely for run.

Wednesday Jan 6, 2010 #

Running (Track intervals) 1:04:00 [4] 8.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

The girls (Abby and Kim) talked me into intervals on the indoor track. They wanted to do 6 x 1/2 mile repeats at 5k pace. We did easy ~2 mile warm up, then intervals (3:00, 3:02, 3:02, 3:02, 3:01, 2:59), and I felt good and relaxed, the last few felt easier and I was pleased that they were a hair faster, but I was also happy with the consistent pacing. Recovery of 1/4 mile each, and cool down of ~2 miles. Made an indoor track run go by fast and feel good.

Tuesday Jan 5, 2010 #

Running (Tempo Intervals) 1:00:00 [3] 8.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Did slight alteration of prescribed tempo workout (since my friend needed pacing for his tempo workout) - so did warm-up through trails to a neighborhood that's slightly more than 1/2 mile long with some rolling terrain and then did 2 x 1 mile @ tempo (did 7:00 for the 1st mile and 6:45 for the second), then 3 minutes 'easy' pace, then 2 x 1 mile @ 10k pace (6:35, 6:34), 2 minute recovery between each, 2 x 1/2 mile @ 5k pace (3:07, 3:07), 2 minute recovery between. Cool down back to house on trails. Felt good and relaxed, but also strong and steady (my mantra lately for workouts).

Did yoga and abs after my run to relax, stretch, and do some core work.

Monday Jan 4, 2010 #

Running (Easy Run) 1:01:00 [1] 7.5 mi (8:08 / mi)

Easy run in Northampton w/ Kim and Valerie. Went from Kim's house, past Smith to Bike Path, up to Look Park and back down to end of Bike Path, thru downtown. Felt good - easy tempo even with the crazy snowy footing.

Weights 30:00 [0] 0.7 mi (42:50 / mi)

Easy warmup walk on TM - 4.2 mph @ 10% grade. Then, did weight lifting exercises. Slightly lower weights since I hadn't lifted in about a week.
