Walking (Easy hike) 1:30:00 [1] 5.0 mi (18:00 / mi)

Did an easy hike with Brian and Jason around some mountain bike trails near Boone. Legs feel tired, but no particular soreness so that's good.

Running (Ultra Race) 10:05:00 [3] 52.0 mi (11:38 / mi) +11000ft 9:42 / mi

First ultra of the season - Leatherwood Ultra. It went well - luckily, even tho my training is no where near what it should be to pull off a long/hard 50 miler...my body seemed to remember what to do. I ran conservatively, so I could last the entire 50 miles...and somehow I continued to run strong through the end. Glad to have that over, and pleased to have my legs feel great the entire time.

I should add that it was raining the entire time - and this course was on horse trails...so the rain broke the trail down into epic mud. You could literally skid down entire downhills...and at times you were going no where on the uphills. Crazy, but just added to the fun of the day.

Note

Took a rest day...we traveled down to NC for the race, so I took a nap instead of running/hiking. I was so apprehensive about how I would feel that I wanted to be sure to be rested up and ready to go.

Easy run w/ Jason at Sugarloaf. There were honest-to-goodness sections of dirt on the run...for most of the run! (Jason even stopped to remove his spikes!) I was excited about that. Of course, my calves are a bit tight...but I'll be a-ok.

I had intended to have Thursday and Friday off, but it was blustery and raw today...so I'll run easy tomorrow instead.
