Sunday Jun 1

Running race 34:30 [4] 5 km (6:54 / km)
slept:8.0 weight:200lbs shoes: NewBalance NBX Flats
Roselle Run for the Roses 5k. Beautiful sunny morning; stilll had the Impala, so Sari joined me and suprised herself: ran 31 minutes and felt better at the end. Next time we'll enter her.

Head cold that developed after Monday's 10miler and jet lag from Holland still seemed bad at start of race. But by the end, I was feeling better too. Splits:10:33, 11:44, 11:07, 1:06. Weight: this is the first time I've seen 200 on the scale since I began the ADT3 in 2005.

Dr Barantsz emailed me an amazing movie scan from my trip to Nijmegan. It shows my skeletal torso and pelvis with major iliac arteries, and green and read lymph nodes (red is bad). By clicking on it, I can rotate the whole image to get a wonderful 3-dimensional view, seeing the relative position of all major organs from all angles.

Friday May 30

Carry golf 1:10:00 [3] 2.7 km (25:56 / km)
spiked:1/9c shoes: NewBalance 715
So Shore Country Club. Phil and Karl, fellow Chicago landlords. Pleasant, conversational round, then lunch in Chinatown. Bought some Wisconsin ginsing for future race recovery: stew in hot water for several hours, cool and slice, macerate in shake with stewing liquor.

Got another cold from last weekend. And Sunday's 5k and next week's half coming up too fast. 3 more miles than last Monday? Not too sure that's in the cards. Got Chris working on June 1 apt change-overs all weekend. It will be lucky if I have a chance to get to Wheaton for the 5k.

Monday May 26

Running race 2:02:49 [5] 10.0 mi (12:17 / mi)
slept:4.5 weight:203lbs shoes: New Balance RC1001 Flats
Elgin Fox Trot 10-miler. After running in the Netherlands for hours on end, then flying back yesterday, I felt pretty good at the start. But my exhaustion level quickly became evident by the 3rd mile: Splits: 11:05 (uphill), 11:35, 12:20, 12:18, 11:36 (down), 12:45, 12:55, 13:08, 13:17, 11:49 = 2:02:49. But good enough for 8th place and not DFL!

Streamwood Oaks 9-holes with 3 excellent black guys. Lots of joking and good humor...and long drives. But made my exhausted effort seem even more pitiful. But the golf loosened up tight, tired legs. And more important, since I'd rented a car for the day, gave me double benefit for that gas usage.

Note: I'm noticing the car rental places no longer are asking such a premium for the larger cars; my Chevy Impala is only $3 more for the week than a Huyandai. If anything, the smaller cars are now fetching a premium. Could this be one result from higher gas prices? No one wants big cars anymore?
