| Race for Young Life 5k. Palatine. Nice morning. Took I-GO car 56 miles out and back in 3.5 hours for $35 including gas; even had enough time to swing by the Saturday morning Farmers' Market and buy a flat of Michigan strawberries...Yum!
Race course had more up-grades than I expected. But felt strong all the way. At finish, looking for a place to sit down and remove chip, got into it with a teeny-bopper, to whom I appeared to be a chip thief. "Young Life" is a bit too bossy for my taste these days...

| Biking around the buildings. #2E tenants moving in today, in this heat. Got all the a/c's installed and running for them early.
Then over to Community for some plumbing parts: man is this stuff now expensive! German-made Grohe fixtures require factory parts: $51.35 for a cheap plastic connector cover that a tenant somehow unscrewed and lost. He's not going to be too happy to see that charge against his security.

| Up to Newport to lock up at the end of the day in 90 degree heat. Stopped at a bar and had a cool one on the way home after a good showing at Fletcher. Running with pain, a lá Evan Custer. Hope the 5k on Saturday is better. | ||

| Chicago. Biking up to the buildings to get work started: repainting a gay guy's apartment who'd been there 4 years and painted all the walls of this 1400sf unit bright colors: purple, rose, greens, yellows, black... Repainting is going to take us a week!
Afterward biking through the evening streets with Sari, out to dinner at Café BaBaReba.

| Reno. Up at 5am at Atlantis Hotel. Desert morning was dawning beautifully, and I was drawn out of our room, leaving Soupbone to his dreams. Not sure where I was going, I started a jog across the huge parking lots: first for the Atlantis, then numerous discount centers, then a few industrial plants, finally crossing underneath the n-s interstate (US 395) to Peckham Lane which skirts the south boundary of the Reno airport.
Running east into the rising sun, I gradually entered residential territory: first a dilapidated hispanic neighborhood with cars in weedy, dry lots; then up into the brown baked desert hills, with watered golf courses and small Nevada frame houses surrounded by xeriscaping or old-fashioned lawns and mature trees. After 30 minutes I turned around and ran back toward the hotel I could see in the distance, down on the valley floor. Traffic was much worse on the return, and I obstinately ran in one of the 4 lanes, against traffic, making car drivers swing out to avoid me. One hispanic woman, unable to get over, slowed and finally stopped in front of me, incredulous that I was usurping her territory, and unsure what to do about it, her eyes wide behind the wheel. It was a stupid stunt on my part. But asserting decent space for a pedestian, and refusing to be pushing into the rocky gully, made me feel good. And I arrived back at our room ready to go up to the pool for an hour.
