NordicTrak 8:00 [3]

Erg rowing 19:41 [3] 3.0 km (6:34 / km)

My back is still sore. Favoring it all day yesterday as we cleaned out the basement. But Soupbone's Nordic Trak didn't fail to work it's magic this morning. And I was good to row after 8 minutes kicking and striding. Nevertheless I took it easy on the rowing. Now we'll see if the relaxed, warm feeling in my back lasts today.

NordicTrak 8:00 [3]

Erg rowing 20:15 [3] 4.0 km (5:04 / km)

Includes a minute or so fiddling with my Walkman, which I've begun wearing during the morning sessions, listening to 'Morning Edition' on NPR.

Note: I was looking over the Concept II competitive distances, and it looks like a couple new sprint distances have been added to the On-line Rankings this year: 100m and 60-second pieces. Might just have to try them soon.

NordicTrak 8:00 [3]

Erg rowing 19:06 [4] 4.0 km (4:47 / km)

Two 2000m pieces, per advice from Charlie. And really an interesting workout. The first 2k I couldn't get motivated, and barely kept pace under 2:30. But the second 2k piece, I was all warmed up and kept pace under 2:20 and finished with a seasonal PR...by 3 seconds over a month ago. 2000m, 9:14.5, 2:18.6 pace for each 500m....and moved up one place in the rankings. :-)

NordicTrak 8:00 [3]

Erg rowing 18:47 [4] 4.0 km (4:42 / km)

Sunday morning in the basement. A couple of notches up this week, mainly to get Soupbone off my back ("c'mon, only 21 minutes!"). Well now we're approaching half an hour of exercise.

The difference is that I do this every day! And I'm a few years older than he! And it is very aerobic exercise, as compared with bike riding or jogging! But the extra 1000m went by quickly. And I earned a bit of satisfaction for completing it. But sooner or later I've got to get my pace UP!

NordicTrak 7:00 [3]

Erg rowing 13:50 [4] 3.0 km (4:37 / km)

Pulled a muscle on the erg yesterday. So I was sore this morning. But the Nordic Trak loosened it up. And I was able to turn in my fastest pace so far this season on the C2 erg rowing machine. I guess I was motivated by Charlie, Soupbone and coach's 6600m 'Birthday Row.'

Doctor appointment yesterday went surprisingly well at Rush University Med Ctr...my new clinic. My new urologist rammed a cystoscope up into my bladder and we looked around inside, thanks to the big TV screen. According to him, the bladder looks even better than it had ten years ago, before I'd been aware of my LUTS...no stones, growths, obstructions, or suspicious areas. Very good news, since I'd been expecting the worst.

Since 2005 I've learned a lot about the urinary tract...which many men begin to have problems with in their later years. As a consequence, I've begun medication, changed my diet, and lost significant weight...all said to help LUTS. And I guess it all adds up.
