NordicTrak 10:00 [3]

Erg rowing 24:40 [3] 5.3 km (4:39 / km)

Did a 1-minute piece at 33spm (1:48.3 pace) after my morning 5k...and added 3m to my existing PR. No improvement in rankings; remain in 26th place in 70-79. But only 8 of those guys are my age or older.

Erg rowing 32:00 [3] 6.8 km (4:42 / km)

Sunday morning. 32 minute Ladder: 1234321 minutes w same time rest between each leg. A pre-programmed workout on the PM4 computer. 55m more overall distance in the 32 minutes than when I did this before, on December 19. Felt pretty good. Each repeat leg on ladder downside was faster than corresponding upside leg.

NordicTrak 10:00 [3]

Erg rowing 23:20 [4] 5.0 km (4:40 / km)

Included is a 1000m PR of 4:07.7. Just about killed me. Pacing very uneven. Two 2:00 segments bookending three at 2:06. I even saw 2:12 on the PM4 before I began my final sprint. Think I'll work on pacing tomorrow.

And quads quite sore this morning, from the hour run yesterday. Last time I had sore quads from running was my first marathon about 30 years ago. Guess 75-yr old muscles don't maintain conditioning as well as they used to.

City running 55:00 [3] 3.4 mi (16:11 / mi) +10m 16:02 / mi
shoes: New Balance 573 Trail shoes

Temps in the 50s at 5am...so I went out for a run...just to appease matzah ball. Even threw in 5-6 100m sprints. Felt really good. And by the time I got over to the Lakefront Trail, the sun was just making a bit of warm light far out on the horizon of Lake Michigan. Spring is coming!

NordicTrak 10:00 [3]

Erg rowing 23:37 [3] 5.0 km (4:43 / km)

Five of Charlie's 'pick-ups' at each 1k mark for 100m and 200m at the end. Felt good to be back rowing again. Don't know when I'll take my next day off; I like the routine.

NordicTrak 10:00 [3]

Erg rowing 23:28 [3] 5.1 km (4:36 / km)

Thought I'd go for a PR on something after this two-day rest period. Charlie made it look so easy yesterday. Tried another 1000m time trial...but again faded about half way. Then tried for 100m PR at the end of the workout, and still didn't have it. I guess loafing around just doesn't get the job done when you're 75.

I'm approaching 400 000m so far this season. By the end of April I'm probably going to have an all-time seasonal distance record. That should count for something, even if my times have been off this year. But the real payoff as far as I'm concerned, is that slow as my row may have been, I'm sitting a little straighter, and with brighter eyes, than I had yesterday morning, sitting at Starbucks, reading the NYTimes.

Shoveling 45:00 [2]

Our first measurable snow. About 4" to shovel off 150' of 8' wide concrete city sidewalk in front and around back of my two remaining buildings. This is my first winter without my Newport Avenue building to hike to, and shovel. A welcome reduction in winter chores!

Second day of rest from rowing. Charlie turned in a lengthy 30-minute piece this morning at a very fast pace. Very motivating to see.
