Roselle Run for the Roses 5k. Felt pretty good, despite threatening weather. Thunder in the distance, and was afraid they'd cancel the race halfway along...after I spent nearly $100 to get to the thing, what with rental car, race entry fee, gas and tolls to get out there.

Last time I did this, two years ago, I ran a 44:19. Today I barely beat a 92-year old! Oh well...take your victories where you can get them, as bl reminded me a couple of weeks ago. At least I'm still showing up!

Beverly Ridge Run 10k. Placed 3rd of 3 runners. So another 'podium' finish...if I'd bothered to hang around to accept the trophy. Frankly the idea of handing out awards in these older, sparser age groups is a ridiculous waste of money.

Guys still running at 75 aren't doing it for the Glory and the awards. They're accepting much slower finishing times than ever before in their running careers. And they're happy just being able to finish. If anything, they might be competing with other age groups; but certainly not 75-79 guys. Why there was a half-hour between the three 75-79 finishers today! Hardly a competitive 'photo finish!'

Well I felt strangely light-headed ten minutes after finishing. A slow 10k, by a couple of minutes compared with last year. Saw spots, and had trouble focusing as I waited in the bright sun for my bus. Then later at home, very exhausted. Would like to take a nap, but have people coming over all afternoon.
