Run for Walk, Evanston, Illinois, honoring
Coach Walker of the Northwestern Wildcats football team. Perhaps a distant relative of our orienteering Walkers? He was only 52 when he died...and is still apparently mourned by NU alums and the whole North Shore. His
widow Tammy was there to start us off.
Beautiful morning. Took 5:55am L train from nearby Fullerton station, transferred at Howard, and then a half-mile walk down Central Avenue to packet pick-up at Northwestern's Ryan Stadium. Nice race course through the leafy residential streets of Evanston, then the NU campus, along Lake Michigan, and back up Sheridan Road.
3-1/2 minutes longer than last year, despite feeling pretty good. Guess I'll just have to get used to this snail pace, and hope it doesn't get worse. But 4-year history doesn't look promising:
