Edgebrook GC, Sauganash, Chicago. An old-time Chicago GC, with a beautiful old clubhouse (now closed) on a bluff overlooking the course. Must have been quite the thing in the 1920's: taking the Northwestern train from downtown, carriage to the clubhouse (a real station wagon), and then a round with Chicago gentlemen, followed by a glass of sherry and tall tales with your foursome around the big stone fireplace in the Great Room of the Clubhouse, before returning to the dirt and odors of the City.

Up to pancake house by self; Sari saw the forecast and stayed in bed. Left in slight drizzle at 5:45am, and the rain intensified as I rode. But decent breakfast, as always. Then rode over to Central Av L train station in Evanston to ride back home high and dry.

Then out to Saturday morning Farmers' Market...Midwest abundance is just beginning!

CarrIage Green GC Darien. A touchy commute. Metra is installing PTC, and as a consequence, moving their schedule around to accommodate the extra work needed to implement the Positive Train Control system, which has been a political football for the past several years. Apparently there is some work required at the beginning and end of each run that takes more time to set up, and disable after the run.

PTC is supposed to eliminate human error on operating trains; slowing the train when conditions warrant. Recent horrific derailments were apparently caused because the engineer, maybe high on drugs, did not slow the train on sharp curves. PTC would take over, and slow the train when required.

So Metra, the commuter trains operated by BNSF, have changed their schedule. PACE buses have not. So me and three others had to run like crazy to catch the bus when the train pulled into the suburban station.
