NordicTrak 10:00 [3]

Erg rowing 10:21 [3] 2.0 km (5:11 / km)

Really trashed my arm, shoulder and back taking hard falls two days in a row this week. Could hardly get out of bed this morning again. But thought I'd try to loosen up in the basement. Nice easy sessiion. But can tell damage is still there. Hope tomorrow will be better.

Friday Feb 22 #

City running 1:19:13 [3] 4.0 mi (19:48 / mi) +10m 19:39 / mi
shoes: New Balance 610AR

Beautiful sunny afternoon. Lots of neighborhood activity. Ran north on the Lakefront to the golf course, just to check snow cover. Playable? Not a chance, for at least until March. Practically pure white.

Stumbled over some broken pavement again today in a construction site; fell full out and bonked my forehead on a wrought-iron fence lining the sidewalk. Ouch! Yesterday's fall, while I was just walking was worse; really skinned my knee and ripped my jeans.

NordicTrak 10:00 [3]

Erg rowing 25:40 [3] 5.1 km (5:02 / km)

Included in this piece was a 100m try for a PR. Tried Charlie's technique for these shorter pieces: fast, short strokes with a cadence over 40spm. Didn't seem to result in much improvement. Don't know how Charlie does it; a couple years ago he averaged 45spm for a one-minute piece where he pulled an incredible pace of 1:34.9. Mine today was a lazy 1:46.5.

Still at bottom of age group, and 0.2 seconds slower than last season. To get into middle of age group, need to be a couple seconds faster. Gotta keep doing these at end of my daily workout, or maybe at the beginning.

Shoveling 25:00 [3]

7am: 3"-4" of wet heavy stuff. Used broad 24" push shovel to push it off the 8' sidewalk and pile it up on the parkway. Still snowing. Will have to do it again in a couple of hours. Supposed to snow all morning. Nice holiday: warm inside, radiators hissing, drinking hot green tea, and reading the NYTimes, while the snow falls heavily outside the windows.

Shoveling 15:00 [3]

10am: Another couple of inches. Sun's out. Light lake-effect snow still. But major dump should be over.
