Renwood GC, Round Lake Beach. Long train ride to this old Depression-era summer resort, now bedroom community. Golf course survives from the Depression and is quite nice...if you can get there. Had extreme difficulty walking down the RR tracks and then down the granite gravel embankment into dense briars. Got cut up pretty badly...why didn't I get cut up when orienteering? But maybe I did, and it was no big deal. But old skin seems to be thinner, tears more easily, and takes longer to recover.

Gonna be a stormy day. So out before 7am to do my 40-minutes. Very humid, but I like these conditions. That's why I don't use a/c in my office, just a box fan in the back window, to maintain a pleasant summer breeze from the garden.

Joliet GC. The golf course just began accepting the public. But still being maintained as a private golf club, and very, very nice. Unfortunately the transit connections are not the best; long wait in downtown Joliet which is completely bombed out...except for a Harrah's Casino. Don't feel like playing craps at 7am. So sit and wait on a concrete wall.

Once at the GC, treated like royalty. Beautiful driving range, and meticulously maintained fairways and greens. Nice bar and restaurant (which I didn't get a chance to sample) and luxe locker room. But only played 9 holes, since it was very hot, and holes seemed to have been switched since the Garmin team surveyed...my GPS was worthless.

So after 9 holes, I hiked back down the RR tracks to the bus, and to Tinley Park, for some delicious wings and a couple IPAs as reward for discovering yet another GC I can reach on transit....now well over 100!

To the Saturday Farmers' Market for just about all the fresh produce you could ever want. "The Season' has arrived!

Then later, bike over to Vaughan's to watch Justin shoot a 61 out at Medinah CC. Was out there for the Ryder Cup a couple years ago. It is a beautiful golf course; wish I could justify becoming a member 'cause it has it's own train station, it is that old! But there are over 100 Chicago-area golf courses that I can reach by transit....so why limit myself?

City running 40:40 [3] 2.1 mi (19:22 / mi)

Missed by 2 seconds beating last Friday's time for this distance. Having lunch with another local landlord, so had to get back. Still a nice a alternative to a fourth day of golk.
