Friday Mar 30

actually riding on the road today - down to hardware store and bike shop and home. Hills sucked - boy am I out of shape - but they didn't seem to hurt quite as bad as they usually do at the beginning of the season - but definitely slow.

Mounted the new front rack this AM - fits really well, but then realized the panniers wouldn't fit properly without some modification, then couldn't find the grinder bits for the dremel, so off to the hardware store. Need to grind a slot in the aluminum mount so they fit flush to the rack.

Fine day for a ride - now for some lunch, then rework the pannier, then perhaps out for a pm ride before the kids get home from school....

Afternoon run at Crandalls, no map, all off trail. Visualized 'controls' in my head and ran to them on terrain memory. Nice day in the woods - marshes soggy, but crossable only ice was in the ballfield near the end.

Easy run out Sodom Road to the gate on 190 and back with Kevin. Icy, rutted road but enough bare spots that the footing was mostly ok...

finished putting the fenders on, more tooling around the driveway while Hayden rode his bike. No heel interference and everything seems quite secure.

EKG flatlined at 3 minutes, so they eventually restarted the machine so I got an extra 5 minute warmup. Went the full 15 minutes without incident.

Got the green light later in the day, so whatever's been causing my chest tightness of late isnt' heart related, so time to ramp up the intensity and frequency of training now...

Nice enough to put the trainer out on the breezeway - nice warm breeze blowing through too. A couple more days like this should melt most of the snow and roads should start to get rideable....

another evening in the basement. After 20 minutes of spinning easily in my middle gear, I cranked it up onto my largest combination and jammed for 5 minutes (117 inches, 45kph). Couldn't read at that exertion and it was a lot of work, but probably good for me now that I've got a couple hundred miles of easy spinning to accustom the muscles to the new bike. Then I backed off to another 15 minutes of easy spinning to cool down. First time I've broken a serious sweat on the trainer though..

1st session of Happy Feet - 40 1st & 2nd graders. Went outside and played a running game. But most of my running was jogging to/from the playground with the kids..

Monday Mar 19

Note
snowing again, slipped on an unplowed walkway at work today (still sore), most of the family sick, goat won't eat - just kind of lost the motivation to go down in the basement and ride. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Less than 20 weeks to the Pan Mass - hope this snow melts soon so I can get out on the road riding again.... Gotta finish the Crandall's map too...

Day off - went over to do some mapping - still a lot of icy snow in some places, others melted out but replaced by slick mud. Drew in a couple reference points on the main slope, but was spending more time trying to get good footing so I gave up after an hour - will wait for the woods to dry a bit more - plenty of time yet...

more tooling around the driveway with Hayden. As least I'm getting good at slow speed turns and avoiding obstacles (Hayden likes to cut across my path...)

Spent a little time trying to see if I could cobble my old 27" fenders to fit the bent. Not pretty - I think I'll just order up a set made to fit....
