| Better day today, not cramping at the end, better route choices, but still blew a couple of controls including a big time bomb on #9. Slow, but a good day out in the woods. Glad I opted for Blue | ||

| Orienteering - Event (Troll Cup Blue 1) 2:01:04 [5]8.62 mi (14:03 / mi) +470m 7:28 / km | ||

| See race description - a long, hard day on my own map - which didn't really mean much except I know my mapping style. But I still managed to run into the green knowing full well I shouldn't.
Visibility really sucked so the going was slow and a lot of people had trouble with that. If the leaves were down, I think people's times would have been much faster and there would not have been as many errors if you could have seen further in the terrain. But I warned people of that in the meet notes but did not realize how bad it would be until I too was out there. I haven't been in the woods since June and most of the Day 1 terrain was back before the leaves were out.

| Gym (5k) 22:14 [4]5 km (4:27 / km) | ||
| ahr:154 max:179 (sick) | ||
| New treadmills at the gym, have a 5k option with continuous HR readout, also have sub-max fitness test built in.
Ran the 5k adjusting speed to keep HR just under 160, ran the last 500m full out.
| Note | ||
| Cold is slowly going away, but still have crap in my chest and a bit of sinus congestion. | ||
| Gym (sub-max fitness test) 14:29 [2]1.3 km (11:08 / km) | ||
| ahr:107 max:124 (sick) | ||
| Tried out the sub max fitness test - 3.4mph, incrementing 1% slope per minute to 12%. Not sure how it claims to derive a VO2 value from heart rate, but I suppose I could use it as a relative measure. Today's VO2 = 59.3 | ||
| Gym (warmup) 4:23 [3]0.8 km (5:29 / km) | ||

| Note | ||
| Looking over the maps and routes of Peter & Boris and realizing I am wasting far too much time navigating the straighter route. Need to focus on finding the cleaner, faster paths. Even legs where I navigated cleanly and felt I was reasonably fast, those that went wide via trails beat me handily..
Also was good to follow Peter a bit in the Relay - not so much blind following as keeping him in sight and noting his route choices - only on one leg did my slightly straighter route yield a faster time - but I also dropped in and out of a reentrant that Peter went high on so it was likely not better route, but just at that point I may have been running harder than Peter.
