Wednesday May 30

Bike - 'bent (commute AM) 57:30 [3]20 km (2:52 / km) +285m 2:41 / km
shoes: Slipstream
Ride to work - mid 40's, a little underdressed - hands were quite chilly.
Bike - 'bent (commute - pm) 1:01:00 [3]20 km (3:03 / km) +295m 2:50 / km
shoes: Slipstream
ride home, stopped by bike shop to see if they carried SPD sandals - they didn't and didn't think any local LBS would. Looks like I'll have to order online - which I hate doing for shoes... Oh well...

Tuesday May 29

Run w/ Jackson (Happy Feet) 45:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon TR2
Running around the field for a while, then a slow paced trail run in the woods behind Birch Grove. Last Happy Feet of the year. Chipmunk Chase fun run on Saturday..

Monday May 28

Run w/ Jackson (Shafran) 1:20:00 [2]7.25 km (11:02 / km) +100m 10:19 / km
shoes: Salomon TR2
Morning run with Jackson - first part of run at a decent pace, but gradually degenerated into more walking than running, then to slow meandering walking rather than purposeful walking. Nice to get out in the woods though..

Sunday May 27

Bike - 'bent (Rockville Spur - Hop Rive) 2:38:00 [3]53 km (2:59 / km) +295m 2:54 / km
shoes: Slipstream
Nice AM ride on the rail trails - SLR to Rockville Spur, then up to Bolton Notch on Hop River Trail turning around at Steeles Crossing. Felt good the whole way, legs a bit tired toward the end but I didn't bring any food or sport drinks - just water. And only working on a single bowl of cheerios for breakfast.

Saturday May 26

Track (Old High School) 49:10 [3]10 km (4:55 / km)
shoes: Adidas Response Trail XI
Decided to run on the track at the old high school while Hayden had his T-Ball game. Ran 2 miles (7:08, 7:01), then a fast 400m (1:25), recovery 800, another 2 miles (7:46,8:25) another fast 400 (1:32) then a few more laps to make it 25 total. Was originally going to go for 7.5 miles but was pretty beat and it looked like the T-Ball games were finishing up anyway. Just in time to have cookies...
Note
I managed to get a free trial sample of the SweatGUTR a soft plastic headband designed to channel sweat off the forehead and keep it out of eyes and glasses. Doesn't soak up sweat like most bands, it merely channels it away from the face.

Today's run at the track was my first time using it. It was around 80F and quite steamy this AM, so I was certainly working up a good sweat. I could feel sweat beading up and also running down my temples but never had any in my eyes or dripping onto my glasses which is always a problem for me. Wasn't 100% sure it was the new band or not, but after running I took it off and toweled off but was still sweating quite a bit and without the band in place sweat was dripping prodigiously onto my glasses and down my face - so I guess it works pretty damn well. Very comfortable too. I'll try it in a few more sports - particularly O but I have a feeling its a keeper..
