Run - Road (Soapstone) 1:00:00 [1] 4.5 km (13:20 / km) +195m 10:58 / km
shoes: Salomon TR2

Run at the forest, not many striders in attendance. Jackson and I did an easy run CCW round the mountain, then connecting over to the moonlight trail, then back toward the mountain doing a couple geocaches on the way. Jackson running at a decent pace at times, but then pokey and walking quite a bit later. Due to the location of one geocache (which we didn't actually find) we came down Killer Hill - its an all-fours climb on the way up and not an easy descent. Nice morning, great to get out even if not a terribly aerobic workout.

Orienteering race (Ratlum Sprint A) 27:31 [5] *** 2.35 km (11:43 / km) +140m 9:01 / km

breezy & 60's - but still managed to sweat a bit in the woods. Lot of laurel, fun run with some less than ideal routes through the laurel, one major error (parallel). Been a long time since I've orienteered (other than course setting at Crandalls).

more good times in laurel hell.... quite a few battle scars from the laurel and the un-laurel. I've got no problem with a bit of minor bloodletting though. Makes me feel like I've accomplished something...

Splits and postmortem

Core 1 [3]

So JJ heads over to Charlies barn to do some of his 'ups' and proceeds to do 11 pull ups on the holds. So I opt to give it a try - barely manage 1 with nothing left to try again. Never said I had any upper body strength - JJ says its because my lower body mass is too high. Does that mean I'm getting porky?

Bike - Recumbent 15:00 [3]
shoes: Slipstream

Took the eggbeaters off and rode around with the platforms while waiting for Anna's bus. Much more relaxed riding with the platforms, especially on tight radius turns. Don't notice that I'm any slower than with the clipless. Also checked the derailleurs and it looks like I can easily drop a 24 tooth granny ring in place of the 30 now on there. That way I can continue to spin up steeper hills where my cadence now drops off. My non-climbing cadence is naturally around 85 rpm or so and my feet don't have any trouble staying on the pedals - so I may just opt to be an old curmudgeon and ride with platforms instead of joining the masses that insist clipless are the only way to go. But I will admit the platforms on the bike right now are kind of crappy, so I'll look around for a nicer pair.

Need to rig a decent way of mounting my zefal pump to the frame. all the normal frame angles that it might wedge into are occupied by cables. But riding with it sticking out of a pannier is a pain too...

Bike - MTN (Trail-a-bike) 15:00 [2] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Trail-a-bike

Quick ride with Hayden on the Trail-a-bike. Rear tire a bit soft plus had to be home for Anna's bus.....

Run - Terrain (Crandalls) 41:07 [3] 6.3 km (6:32 / km) +205m 5:37 / km
shoes: Salomon TR2

Early AM run at Crandalls on the way into work. About 50% trails, 50% off trail - headed out to the western part of the park. Gonna be some fun stuff when I actually get out to map that area later this fall.... AOWN - coupla deer, or perhaps the same on a coupla times over.... No fawns (or fauns either).

Pace felt pretty brisk even though the measured pace seems a bit average - but I did walk a couple uphills. It is what it is I guess...

Run - Mixed (campus lunch run) 21:51 [4] 4.75 km (4:36 / km) +70m 4:17 / km
shoes: Salomon TR2

Felt like running some more, so put the running clothes back on and headed out for a lunch time run - low 80's and dry. Pretty much fartlek across campus, trying to stay on grass and off concrete - easy on hard surfaces, moderate on grass and pushing up little hills. Wound up behind the apartments on Hunting Lodge Rd so wound up doing a little on roads as the road went by the bar where I get my sandwiches for lunch. If only they made milkshakes...

My glasses kept sliding off due to the sweat pouring down my temples (but not in my eyes) so I need to remember to put the eyeglass retainer on when I run in warm weather - usually only use it when I'm running in terrain...
