Great day for a snowshoe race. The Strider team - John Agosto, Dave Almand, Dave Merkt, Ginny Patsun, Vicki Quaglioroli and myself headed up to Albany, NY for what I believe is the largest snowshoe race in the northeast - 207 finishers.

Went out hard off the line in a loop around the ballfield to gain position before heading into the woods - a lot of loose powder flying... Passed by a couple guys about a mile in, then in a bit of a no man's land again between the leaders and the mid-packers. Around 2 miles in women's winner Amy Lane reeled me and we chatted briefly before she moved ahead. I managed to keep her in my sights for the second half and found I could close the gap on her on the hills and once we made the turn for the final couple hundred meters back to the school I really turned it on and managed to finish 2 seconds behind her in 15th place, 6th masters, 93.24pts

We had 4 Striders in the top 20 with two more solid mid-pack finishers - a great day all around!!

L&F Week#3. down 4.2 pounds overall
Feeling really good, no major Lyme issues.
Looks like trail running out of the equation for awhile, but overall training time ahead of target for month.

Took the boys skiing at Northfield. -2F to start, warmed up to just damn cold by midday. Not much mileage, lots of back and forth on my part, falling down & crashing on theirs. Skied about halfway up the mountain, then down via some intermediate trails. Fun outing.

Shoveling 30:00 [2]
rhr:42 slept:4.5 weight:78.8kg

cleared the cement snow from the end of the driveway so I could get out and get to work. Still about 6" of powder left on the rest of the driveway, but I was able to drive over that and get out. We'll deal with that later - or maybe the boys will take care of it, they're off from school again today - but I guess that may be wishful thinking eh?

G is migrating upward again... damn....

Snowshoe 40:00 [1]

afternoon snowshoe with family. went up to soapstone but nothing plowed out so went home and broke some trail out behind the house. Up to waist deep down the hill in spots coupled with my tights having a tear in the crotch made for nippy travel. Didn't go very far but got quite an aerobic workout nonetheless

Run - Road (snowgaine geartest) 50:00 [3] 8.5 km (5:53 / km)
shoes: 340 ORoc 2010

Cracked open the wayback machine and dragged out some of my gear from 20+ years ago.

Neoprene socks fit in the O-Rocs?
Backcountry gaiters still functional?
Lifa Zip T's - one still fits, one handed down to Jackson
Goretex Mitts?

Out the door for a run and the snow is knee deep and piling up fast, so opted to slog out and do a road run instead as the snow was only 3-4 inches deep on somewhat recently plowed roads. Slow going, tough with blowing snow - but got the job done.

Neoprene socks/gaiter/O-Roc combo worked well.
Winter mitts too warm for vigorous exercise, but will be good to have on hand for slower periods with cold fingers.
New jacket rocked once again.
Need to insulate the 'important parts' a bit better... Good thing this was only an hour.

My brother-in-law (plow guy) got called into Hartford to truck snow removal all night, guess I'm on my own. Looks like another 90-100 minutes to get the driveway clear enough to go to work in the morning. Ugh...

Bike - Stationary (0.8m) 4:33 [3]
rhr:46 slept:6.5 weight:77.8kg

feeling a bit under the weather, almost blew off going to the Y, but figured I'd regret it if I did, so went anyway - only rode 1 lap on the bike today.

Core 9:10 [3] 2.0 km (4:35 / km)

never done the elliptical before. I like the fact that you can vary your speed directly - more/less rpms, but the gait/stride seems 'forced' to me, not natural at all, I found at faster speeds it felt best basically on my toes rather than flat footed, not really sure how its supposed to be done. Perhaps playing a bit with where my feet are placed on the pedals. Again, just a brief foray as I wasn't really feeling into it this morning.

Other 21:00 [0]

Note

slightly over my calorie budget two days running but nothing I'm concerned about. But tomorrow looks like a snow day with far too many temptations to snack around the house.

Guess I'll have to get out for a long snowshoe early to build a big calorie deficit so I can eat at will...
