Putting out and retrieving SI gear at Camp Stonybrook GSC, near Waynesville, OH.

It didn't seem really hot for some reason, but I was dripping sweat when I got back to the start at 1045 or so. Bill Swift totally bailed me out and placed the 5 SI units in the NW area of the map, while I hurried to set up the SI equipment at the start. I noticed girl scouts being started without SI, and I learned (1) that they didn't know I had planned to use SI, and (2) the time I verified the night before, 11am, was incorrect, and they actually started at 1030. Oh well. They did their own timing, and I only had to worry about the "public" competitors. It's a pretty major bummer, though, to go to all that trouble, primarily for the kid wow factor of SI, and then to not use it. Number 1 on my list of mistakes would be drastically underestimating the time to put out SI gear. If I'd been at the start 30 minutes early, like a normal event director, I'd have been okay.

The turnout was decent, and people seemed to enjoy the courses, except for 1 complaint about climb, 2 complaints about legs through nasty green vegetation, and many questions about where the water was. Water on the course would have been a good idea. Finishers came running in just completely soaking wet with sweat.

Big thanks to Bill Swift for helping set up, and to David Williams, Katie Williams, and Tom Svobodny for helping gather controls, and to David Williams for taking care of everything else while I used the computer.
