Mountainbike 3:43:31 [3] 41.0 mi (5:27 / mi) +5709ft 4:49 / mi

great ride up mt hamliton from san jose, great ride, rode independently from yumay, and turned around about every 30 min to ride back down and catch up, originally we were going to run half of the blue course at joe grant, but it was bitter cold on the way down (we had great sun at the top but a sea of clouds at the bottom) so yumay wanted to skip the 1.5h run, fair enough, it was a great workout regardless...

awesome long training outing with yumay! long ride to santa theresa park and back, including a 2h score O! tired at the end...

Orienteering 1:43:00 [3] 7.3 mi (14:07 / mi) +2152ft 11:02 / mi

cleared the course at a great 2h score O, Tricky Trail Mix that rex put on! I had one of the best O performances so far and only made probably 2x1min of mistakes, and was able to run hard even at the end, ran all uphills except for the steepest off trail slopes.. finished 2nd behind mikkel, actually had a great battle with a guy who ran ahead of me the last 5 minutes by just a bit and then ran off towards the finish in the wrong direction, i beat him by 5 seconds in the end...

phew! finished abysmal almost at the end of the ranking due to a massive 25minute error on #6, but other than that had a good run, would have finished a few minutes ahead of patrick without, but thats the thing, you need to get em all right, not just 22 of 23... in all honesty #6 was massively difficult and several people including eric bone messed it up, just not in the double digit number...
started off great, focused and made no mistakes until #5, ran well and kept looking ahead... at 5 i took my time to decide the best route, it was a massive leg across the whole map ... chose the right route but after cirumnavigating the biggest hill sidetracked off and got too much W, once in the control region (I was hundreds of meters off), I went even more left and ended up almost one kilometer away from teh CP until i realized it, it was a combination of inability to see any features and stupidity of not measuring distances... ended up overshooting a second time once i got back as the CP was on a narrow ridge on a massive sidehill and in bushes, so i ran all the way to the top watercontrol to get some water and then shot a bearing directly to the control.... did well in all but one more CP where i got into a gully where i could not get out of (too steep) so i was stuck walking hundreds of uphill feet in an overgrown gully, probably got poison oak all over me, yeehaw! finished 55min behind the elite, 30 minutes behind would have been possible which happens on a good day... overall it was really a great meet, technically very difficult but i do feel like i am getting slowly better at this, and i take the harder, directer routes now, which makes me mess up sometimes, no biggie

Trail Run 15:00 [2] 1.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

to the start, warm up

Orienteering 44:53 [4] 4.0 km (11:13 / km) +984ft 8:10 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia Grey #3

O in the Oaks Ameet, Blue Course... I did well for the most part, in fact I think i did really well with the exception of S-1, where I took my time to read the map and several times stopped to try to figure out what route to take, it was by far the longest leg and i lost a couple of minutes to the best orienteers (some swedish guys got 1st and 2nd) and then I lost 5 minutes at CP12, just before the finish, too bad because i think 40 minutes would have a been a very good time, winner took 27minutes, ericB took 30minutes and change...

Orienteering 30:00 [2] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)

easy course repetition with kimberly after the race, she wanted to try to run some additional CPs, and we did a small loop..

Orienteering 50:00 [3] 2.0 mi (25:00 / mi) +394ft 21:04 / mi

took down 5 controls at the end, going to the further back part of the park....

Mountainbike 1:42:00 [3] 22.0 mi (4:38 / mi) +1230ft 4:24 / mi

biked to vasona lake park in los gatos, via the hinterland, and back after the O event

Orienteering 30:00 [3] 5.0 km (6:00 / km) +82ft 5:51 / km

Vasona Lake Park, first sprint, then course 1, unfortunately i noticed my epunch last week to be all wonky, but i though it was because of my DNF, today i found out I broke it... after the sprint i got the same weird printout, 12h34m05s on each CP...so i cleared again, checked nothing was on it, and ran course 1, only to find out it was really broken... i found a cracked front head, and probably water that seeped in... bummer, no times for the sprint... i was pretty slow anyways as i was still pretty sore from Thursday, Yumay kicked butt and did it in 25min, i think my time was around 23min...

Ridiculously hard O event at Las Trampas... its one of the most difficult maps they have according to everyone, and then for fun they decided to leave all but one trail and one road off the map... i did ok until 5, where i lost 20 minutes looking in a wrong area, finally figured it out only to loose anohter 5 minutes twice in a row on consecutive cps, then i realilzed it was late and i needed to get back as i had the car key... bummer was that yumay took 3h and i could have gone on,... it was brutal terrain, bushwhacking galore, wet and slippery as hell, i looked like a mudpole after the race... overall fun but my first real DNF (did not find or finish i guess)...
