nice jog up to eric s house trying to get him ready for the last BEAST race... i m feeling super with the exception of my right knee, which i ll have checked out tomorrow...

Sunday Aug 21

Mountainbike race 4:19:00 [2] 30.0 mi (8:38 / mi) +500m 5:06 / km
long, tedious mountain bike leg knowing we were in 3rd place and noone could catch us (everyone was shortcoursed except top3)... so we took it easy and tried to stay awake..i had plenty of hallucinations and kept almost falling asleep so i took a nodoz which helped... plus it got really cold too...
Trail Run race 18:00 [3]
add on from day before..
Paddling race 2:29:00 [1] 10 km (14:54 / km)
last paddle after a bit of rest at the TA so we could finish up at daylight... great race, so many good memories and a few bad, but overall a race i d do again in a heartbeat....

Saturday Aug 20

Note
Raid the North, Nelson, BC
Phantastic Race, with Aaron Rinn, Liz Stahl and Glen Rogers... 3rd of about 24 teams... only three teams made all the cutoffs...
Mountainbike race 1:28:00 [3] 11.0 mi (7:59 / mi) +350m 4:31 / km
Start of the race at midnight after a hectic day of getting all the gear ready... we were passed by teams over and over and felt like we were part of the bottom feeders but knew that we were just more experienced and would start picking them up one by one on the trek... probably in 10th place..
Trail Run 7:31:00 [3] 22.0 mi (20:29 / mi) +2200m 9:43 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia #1
Trek Section I: long fireroad up that turned into a grown over little trail, then about 5h of bushwhacking.. we worked our way into 2nd place alongside Helly Hansen right behind DART... about 4.30 AM DART was just a few minutes ahead of us and started screaming for minutes, we first though someone fell off a cliff but they encoutered a grizzly that charged them and eventually left.. one of the guys needed stiches and they were at the TA for quite a bit longer so we came in 2nd and left 1st for a few minutes until they passed us at an incredible speed downhill on the bikes...
Mountainbike race 3:45:00 [4] 20.0 mi (11:14 / mi) +1500m 5:40 / km
... the uphill bike section from hell... aaron and I towed liz the whole way... aaron more than me.. glen just focussed on keeping up... then a downhill from hell where i fell into a riverbed and turned loose a big rock which crushed my back a bit... bloody hell..
Paddling race 5:06:00 [2] 20.0 mi (15:17 / mi)
the longest paddle of my life so far.. glen and I towed liz and aaron as our boat was faster.. by the end i was hurting so much i could not sit anymore... at the very end there was a zipline for a tyrolean traverse of sorts...
Trail Run race 6:10:00 [2] 11.0 mi (33:38 / mi) +1000m 16:18 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia #1
we got out of the water 2nd just a few minutes after helly hansen, being trailed by DART by just a few minutes... aaron and glen wanted to rest way too long but there was no dissuading them.. so we ate and rested plenty and left almost 40 minutes behind in 3rd place and never made it up on the trek... bummer

Wednesday Aug 17

Note
resting up for the raid the north... stretching and carboloading.. not much more.... i hate tapering...

Monday Aug 15

Trail Run 1:56:38 [3] 11.8 mi (9:53 / mi) +20m 6:07 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia #2

Sunday Aug 14

Paddling 2:35:00 [3] 13.5 mi (11:28 / mi)

Saturday Aug 13

Note
6degrees of navigation adventure race, with yumay as team mergeo.com... and we did our team proud!! we finished first overall like eric and liz last year.. though it wasnt as easy as for them... more here
Orienteering 57:23 [3]**** 4.0 mi (14:20 / mi) +100m 8:16 / km
spiked:10/13c shoes: Brooks Cascadia #2
tough going.. detailed 1/5000 orienteering map with very tough vegetation.... lots of nettles, blackberry and rosebushes...also some tough scrambling... did really well on nav but forgot to pick up the darn sevylor kayaks on the way down so bumped from 1st to 4th temproarily..
Paddling 51:14 [3]*** 5.0 mi (10:14 / mi)
downstream paddling, not much water, a cp hard to find in the middle...other than that uneventfuly and thoroughly enjoyable....yumay running with the paddles and me carrying the boat worked like a charm and we got out of the water 2nd right behind a 2male team...
Trail Run 1:17:26 [3]*** 5.5 mi (14:04 / mi) +300m 7:29 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia #2
trek, ok navigationally, fast run, finished 2nd right behind 4coed team kitsap/mpgear...
Bike-O 2:25:00 [3] 12.0 mi (12:04 / mi) +400m 6:48 / km
lots of technical riding, hard to find cps.. battled ourselves into 1st early on... took about 15min off the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place (one big blob) and then lost it all on cp27... first a horrendous fall from yumay and then my snafu... well we left the cp 4th but then went into overdrive and took about 11 minutes off in the last 30min... and won :)

Wednesday Aug 10

Paddling (necky cathman 18ft) 52:30 [4] 6.0 mi (8:44 / mi)
had my best paddle so far, used the fastest boat at NWOC and the 425$ test paddle from werner... water was flat... out to ballard bridge and back in over 3 min faster than previously...

Tuesday Aug 9

Trail Run 2:00:55 [2] 13.1 mi (9:13 / mi) +20m 5:43 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia #1
half marathon distance at the marymoor trail with full baggage (backpack, clothing, 100oz bladder filled, food)... slower going, plus some tiredness around the hips, but nothing some good ipod music cant alleviate...
Mountainbike (commute) 1:22:23 [3] 22.2 mi (3:42 / mi) +50m 2:17 / km
brick right after the run... usual time, but tired around the hips and lower back... kept the heavy backpack on...
Mountainbike 1:28:32 [2] 8.0 mi (11:04 / mi) +250m 6:16 / km
evening brick with liz at lord hill, but i forgot the running shoes so no brick :(

Mountainbike 1:01:04 [3] 7.0 mi (8:43 / mi) +330m 4:44 / km
biked at lord hills with liz.. no towing as she s getting ready for a longer race, so i took it a bit easier
Trail Run 44:00 [2] 4.0 mi (10:59 / mi) +80m 6:26 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia #1
subsequent run with some nav

Friday Aug 5

Tuesday Aug 2

Event: 2005 North American Rogaine Championships

Orienteering race (Rogaining) 11:38:00 [2]*** 60 km (11:38 / km) +1200m 10:35 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia #2
north american rogaine championships... quite disappointing... it started off great.. got about 800 points in the first 5h and were on course to getting both loops (planned) done, but did not load up on water at a creek and then hit several creeks(lakes) with no water.. spent 1h on cp84 without finding it (map was very inaccurate on fences, at least on 5 cps that we went to) and then missed 5cps out of 7 after that, eventually rolled my ankle and had to give up at half time with only 970 points... great area, good time with glen, map no good...
