Roadbiking (commute) 1:12:00 [2] 36.3 km (1:59 / km) +66ft 1:59 / km

sweet holy moses... rode to work with aaronV's bike, the one he calls a crappy bike.. well it weighs about 50% of what mine does and rides like a charm.. liked the pull.. will be great using this for the wicked urban..., i guestimated its probably about 10-15% faster at the same effort.. i need to get a better roadbike...

Trail Run 43:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:36 / mi)

lunch run to arboretum and back, intermitten short breaks of slower running after about every mile.. still a bit trashed from saturday, must have overdone it a wee bit...

Bike-O 2:15:00 [2] 8.0 mi (16:52 / mi) +820ft 15:23 / mi

bike orieteering opposite of tiger mountain... usgs map, lots of difficult terrain, extra, missing roads, the whole schabang.. jerry put out markers, i got em all but the one on top of mountain as i ran out of time... trouble with chain and in the end rear cassette came loose.. also 2 bad-ish nav errors... not my day

Paddling (amaruk) 1:58:00 [3] 9.0 mi (13:07 / mi) +33ft 13:04 / mi

probably the craziest roger/yumay excursion so far.. tried (and succeeded eventually) to paddle from our house to idlewood park, up the sammamish shough.. most of it was tame, some class 1 rapids that were mastered with bouts of speed and energy, but there is one about 1/8 mile section that is pretty wild even downriver.. yumay absolutely wanted to try, so we did.. for about 30 minutes. first after 60% completed she lost her paddle and we had to go downriver to fetch it..not easy turning a 20ft, 100lbs plastic kayak on a small river.. our second try included a lot of super-interval paddles from side to side of the river, pulling, paddling, and finally succeeding, not before yumay had a branch poke her eye though.. scary... anyhow, the downriver ride was awesome...

Portage 12:00 [3] 0.6 mi (20:00 / mi)

Trail Run 1:30:33 [3] 10.0 mi (9:03 / mi) +1312ft 8:03 / mi
shoes: Brooks Cascadia #3

trail run at cougar with eric and aaron... after yesterdays hard towing effort my legs were blown but i decided to head out anyways, i need back to back long runs for the 100 miler in the summer... it was raining hard the whole time we were out and eric towed me for all the hills.. was fun being on the receiving end of a towline for once and it worked great on the trail, no misssteps... decided to cut the trip short to 90minutes.. too many races in the next 4 weeks to overdo it...

Orienteering race 3:02:08 [4] 17.0 mi (10:43 / mi) +656ft 10:20 / mi

Bellevue Street Scramble #2, as usual with yumay as team Swiss Miss... started off great and probably would have been very close to 1st place alongside bill/heidi and matt/sister but messed up badly on a route choice towards the end of the run... lost 100 points by my account, plus 20 for 2 minute late penalty.. yumay was a trooper, we had to run as hard as we could back in order to not get late penalty, did not quite make it anyways..

Trail Run 15:00 [2] 1.0 mi (15:00 / mi) +164ft 12:59 / mi
shoes: Cascadia #4 Orange

warmup with georgia, aaronV and mike..

Note

Trioba Nr1, good effort, but the gods of navigation refused mergeo today.. eric did a lousy job in St. Louis from what i can see, and we did equally poorly here. Started off well finding CP1-3, then broke my chain, thanks to quicklink lost no more than 5-6 minutes.. then came what i remembered as the dark ages of 2004... mike messed up his nav good and several times, and we lost probably almost 40 minutes in the first 2h on four occasions... some of it he s not to blame, the map was more than iffy... continued to do bad on the trek until we got CP11 of 14.. by then we were probably in about 15th place overall... a huge effort, super strong run and good attitude made us get in 4th place until the 2nd last CP.. AV rolled his ankle downhill and we got overtaken by some 2p male team.. no biggie, DART finished 3rd, we 5th, for 1st and 2nd in Coed4, respectiely.. like my new teammates, now we just got to get the nav right.. plenty more opportunities with 3 races in the next 4 weekends...

Saturday May 13, 2006 #

Orienteering (rogaine) 11:45:00 [2] 45.0 km (15:40 / km) +6562ft 12:49 / km
shoes: Cascadia #4 Orange

Rogaine 24h US Chapionship, Big Muddy
2nd place overall, raced with Vladimir Gusiatnikov, very pleased with our race, though some misplaced and missing checkpoints (never heard that one before), plus one water stop where no water was delivered made it a tough race.. originally wanted to clean the course but only got 49of53CPs, Vlad had trouble on the first lap and me on the second, so the going could have been sligtly faster.. nav was excellent by Vlad, learned a lot...

Mountainbike (commute) 1:19:00 [2] 36.3 km (2:11 / km) +66ft 2:10 / km

Monday May 8, 2006 #

Trail Run 55:00 [1] 5.0 mi (11:00 / mi) +197ft 10:36 / mi
shoes: Cascadia #4 Orange

intended to run for 3h but felt like crap from the beginning and never got better.. yumay actually towed me for a while but in the end we walked all hills and called it a day after less than an hour.. we must have eaten something bad as yumay ended up throwing up back at the car, weird, feeling much better now...

Paddling 1:30:00 [2] 8.0 mi (11:15 / mi)

nice paddle under cloudy skies at ft.steilacoom, paddling north then back south with big about 2ft waves keeping us on our toes.. with AV and MM..

Orienteering race 1:05:00 [4] *** 8.0 km (8:08 / km) +328ft 7:39 / km
spiked:15/22c shoes: Montrail Diez Vista #2

Score-O at Ft Steilacoom, dorky scoring system allowed for best scoring to get them all, as the time penalties were tiny... 22cps, lost about 15 minutes on the course which is far from satisfying, but 14 of those minutes in the first 30, so i was rather pleased at the end...

Mountainbike 2:15:00 [3] 20.0 mi (6:45 / mi) +2625ft 6:00 / mi

drove down to capitol forest with eric and mike to round up the great day with a really nice mtb session, lots of technical trails, hard uphills, super downhills..

Mountainbike (commute) 1:16:00 [3] 35.6 km (2:08 / km) +66ft 2:08 / km

took bike to work via bus, then rode hard out to meet up with ruri, some whimpy roadbikers drafted off me for almost an hour without ever offering to lead... then i took it a bit easier once i met up with ruri and rode home...

Mountainbike 24:00 [3] 7.0 mi (3:26 / mi)

to/from NWOC

Paddling (amaruk) 40:00 [2] 3.0 mi (13:20 / mi)

1.5 lake union loops with aaron, doing a bit of style excercises.. funny that i am on the donating side now.. used to paddle with no style just a year ago...

Mountainbike 1:34:00 [2] 12.0 mi (7:50 / mi) +656ft 7:27 / mi

easy parts of biking at tiger, iverson and preston singletracks, downhill and fireroad...

Mountainbike 24:00 [5] 4.2 mi (5:43 / mi) +1312ft 4:25 / mi
ahr:192 max:199

with aaronV at tiger, my testosterone levels were once again a wee bit high and after ruri s "time trial to the top" i decided to drop the hammer and ride it out hard.. the first 2.5 miles though that hammer was not very big and i suffered up there behind aaron.. caught up right at the end and we both did it in the exact same time as ruri 2 weeks ago...

Trail Run 48:39 [3] 5.5 mi (8:51 / mi) +197ft 8:33 / mi

Tuesday May 2, 2006 #

Trail Run 42:00 [3] 4.5 mi (9:20 / mi) +164ft 9:01 / mi
shoes: Brooks Cascadia #2

unbelievable the fun(k)y things that happen to me.. i ran over lunch, and since the arboretum is flooded due to too much melt water i ran to the south west side of the stadium around the waterfront... about halfway through, by the water i noticed a lot of people congregating and staring to the water.. out on the water two chinese students from UW capsized with a canoe and could not swim.. to they tried to dog-paddle but got nowwhere and it looked like they were about to drown... so i took off my clothes and jumped into the freeeeeezing cold water and swam the about 100m to the boat and then while they hung onto the boat i tried to swim-push-pull their boat back, which took considerable effort and i was severely tired at the end.. someone called 9-11 and by the time we were on shore the water police came and picked the students and boat up, their belongings and paddles were all over the water swimming around...got a big thank-you from everyone including the police and then went do run the rest of the intended loop... got warmed up pretty quickly again but had a cramp along the way, probably not used to swimming and running...

Swimming 12:00 [4] 0.2 km (1:00:00 / km)

my first (and unplanned) swim of the year... felt pretty good swimming there...
