Trail Run 11:00:00 [3] 25.0 mi (26:23 / mi) +1900m 13:16 / km
shoes: BrooksCascadiaT Nr2
Desert Winds 24h AR, first time racing a 24h with Yumay. We wanted to go out and have fun and finish the race and certainly got 100% of both. The race started out with a fairly difficult nav run and swim section, my nav was shaky at first but with the help of following some teams I got into it really quick and then navigated really well the whole race, fact other than a stupid 20 minute and a few 3-5 minute mistakes I hit almost all of them straight on. Especially the night nav worked well... that said, we were not going particularly fast so that was nice... this was actually my first ever 24h race that I navigated. Anyhow, after hitting 3 out of 4 optional CPs we made it back to HQ and got a massive Kayak leg... problem was we only had two 1p slow singles and got creamed on that ... we probably lost 3-4h to the top teams on our 10.5h of paddling... yes, 10.5h, that is the most i have ever paddled in a 24h period... during that leg we went and got some optional CPs and I almost stepped on a beautiful rattlesnake that was pissed and rattled like crazy..., the paddle back during the night under starlit sky was great... once back to HQ we spent the rest of the night getting lots of the mandatory CPs, until morning hit... we thought we had about 3h to spare to make the cutoff when I made a capital error and decided to try to coasteer the last leg instead of run around it... we swam a ton, the trekking was horrendous and it took us 4 times longer than expected.. fortunately we still made it back with about 45 min to spare.... overall one of the best 24h ARs I have ever done.... and Yumay loved it too!
Paddling 10:30:00 [2] 35.0 mi (17:59 / mi)
Looooooooooooooooong paddle sections
Swimming 1:30:00 [2] 2 km (45:00 / km)
I calculated I got in the dang cold water 11 times during the race... thank god for dry bags...

Mountainbike 1:05:00 [2] 11.0 mi (5:54 / mi) +200m 3:29 / km
Biked in Redwood National Forest, gorgeous ride, a little short but given our weekend 24h plan and the fact that we need to get south a bit faster now it was better this way...
