Attackpoint log has fallen idle as spent 16 days in Tasmania travelling over 3,196 km averaging about 200 km per day. Back roads in Tasmania typically narrow, steep and windy so top speed generally 60-80 kmph or less with little opportunity to kick in ‘cruise control’.
Highest distance travelled in a day 341 km.
Lowest distance travelled in a day 10 km.
Spent 3 days driving to Melbourne and 3 days driving back, to travel over on Ferry which added another 1,325 km.
Return drive from Melbourne, over 2 days, was another 1,138 km.
So grand total was 5,659 km. Longest road trip I have ever done.
Station wagon held up well, with no flat tyres or other issues, apart from
(a) L Plater managed to run up the back of my station wagon whilst I was stationary waiting at roundabout. Just what I needed. No apparent damage to either vehicle as I think her number plate just nudged my towbar socket.
(b) Engine mysteriously dying once for no apparent reason and restarted after about the 10th attempt.
Took a huge range of about 1900 photos but not a great photographer and with mobile phone only so will include only a small representation. More photos in the individual picasa albums.
Scenery was breathtaking and varied across all sides of the island dramatically.

Apart from the uncountable number of roadkill, seemingly every 500 m on some roads, we did actually see some live wild animals including a paddymelons, a bluetongue lizard, three wild echidnas (one of which was so indifferent to us that we sat right next to it), a wild platypus (which was the Paris Hilton of platypus with a huge crowd of onlookers and photographers) and wild wombat.
Will backdate log for ‘individual days’ over the coming days.
