This is my fourth Rogaine.
First time I have partnered with someone who managed to maintain a pace throughout and not flag after 3 to 4 hours.
Maintained a steady 5 km per hour (with maybe 5 minute variations).
So thanks to Ian.
I had to push for jogging intervals in the last 2 hours to maintain the pace but otherwise we went OK.
Felt physically fine afterwards (and minimal affects Monday morning), and new shoes had no problems (my toenails didn't go black like the last rogaine).
Fast walking pace through bush was good (Ian's longer legs can walk faster than mine so I had to jog a bit) but I could have run on most of the tracks and maintained a pace of 6-7 km per hour overall. I think I could have managed 36 km.
We mapped out route in advance and only dropped one control from plan which was Control 65 between Number 27 Control 86 and Number 28 Control 38. Contemplated adding 84 but thought this would make us late. Picked up extra Number 31 Control 22 as we had 18 minutes to spare at the end.
So very happy with our joint planning efforts.
It was cold, raining and miserable when we started but thankfully this lasted only the first 40 minutes. By the 3 hour mark started taking layers of clothing off.
We only had trouble with one control, 49, which wasted about 5 minutes and was my fault as I navigated too far east.
I used my iphone MapMyRun App to record route and 'announce' each 1 km travelled and that was helpful motivating me to keep going. First time I have used it for such a long event and the battery held up surprisingly well.
Some very stunning scenery, rocky outcrops and cliffs but didn't ever stop to take any of it in.
Sequence of Controls visited, accumulative score, and approximate hour interval times of where we were (didn't stop to write it down so can't remember precisely).
