Orienteering - Bush (Minor - Stanford Scrubs) 2:24:25 [1] * 8.75 km (16:30 / km)
32c (sick) shoes: Salomons June 2014
Too sick to remotely consider competing so deliberately chose the "master map and get whatever you want" option so no comparison to any one else.
Totally different mindset when out on a course and "every control" is yours!
Best km rate all day was about 14 min/km as all walking.
Also "Stanford Scrubs" has proved to the my "Bermuda triangle" of maps so I wanted to experiment amongst the vague areas. Ultimately only 155 and 156 were in this area and didn't have many dramas.
Training day with friend.
Only 2nd time they had attended ... with them also attending the prior training event on a Saturday at O'Donneltown.
Got them to do map reading and navigation plus punch the controls.
Took a small back pack with food and water, stopped whenever and wherever, and elected to maximise the time we were out and about prior to course closure.
We both had maps but she dropped hers somewhere between 12. 158 and 13. 169 and we couldn't be bothered backtracking looking for it.
She enjoyed it and will continue to attend at future events.
Visited 32 control sites.

First time I ever filled my SI Stick.
So now I know it just stops beeping when it hits 30 ... but still records the finish control.
We couldn't be bothered with 136, 162, 148, 163 to clear the entire course as they wouldn't fit on the SI Stick and we wanted to ensure we were back prior to 1 pm course closure (as it was we were last competitor back).
Didn't hang around for socialisation ... or opportunity to mass infect everyone by coughing and spluttering.
Took 500 m off the distance as forgot to turn off phone and included a bit of the drive up the road back to Kurri Kurri for lunch.
