Orienteering - Bush (NOY) 1:06:00 [3] 6.67 km (9:54 / km)
(injured) shoes: Salomons June 2014
Hard Medium.
After months of frustration with poor performance I was happy with navigation today and I didn't come a dismal last. So felt a lot better which prompted me to do a second run as wayfarer.
#1 Got thrown by the placement of the control right next to the track. A father and son were there and I thought it must be an Easy Control rather than mine although it was in the right location.
#2 You could see this from Control #1 so no problems.
#3 East to major track. Then NE up major track to bend. Then east along track straight to control. All the track network made perfect sense today.
#4 NW back to major track. Crossed ditch and through scrub to track and then straight on to clearing.
#5 Track network to waterway. Then approximately west along tracks until found bend in waterway and on to control. Never got lost but wasn't as confident.
#6 South through bush to main track, coming out just east of track intersection. East slightly to find clearing and then south through clearing and onto creek. Up creek to control. I was happy with this leg.
#7 East to major track. Then east along minor track and south to control. I was within about 10 metres of it when I lost confidence so some time lost here.
#8 East to vegetation boundary and then across creek to control.
#9 East to major track. NE up track and then followed it E. South on track intersection until 90 degree bend then directly east to control. No issues.
#10 South to powerlines clearing. Across both sets of powerlines. Ran to end of prominent ditch in powerline clearing. Then SE to control. No issues.
#11 SW along powerline clearing up to major powerline. Then NW to track and then up track directly leading to feature. No issues
#12 SW down hill. Overshot slightly to the 2nd fenceline running parallel to the track. Realised there were two fencelines and then corrected south to control.
#13 NW along track past out of bounds area. Then W to watercourse and onto control. No issues.
#14 West to powerline clearing. Thought this was a good chance of making a mistake. So elected to go to creekline. Followed creek up leading to control and got to the end where the creek turned into tracks. Then north up to control.
