Run 5 km NSW - Official Rooty Hill 30:22 [3] 5.0 km (6:04 / km)

Today there was a deaf community at parkrun with a group of 10 or more communicating in a circle with sign language. I had only even seen this on TV and never in real life. Was very impressive. At the start introduction speech they even had an interpreter standing up converting to sign language on the fly. No idea whether these are local to Rooty Hill or a travelling community group.

I normally run with my bar code in a plastic name tag badge. Today it blew out 100 m from the start and I had to run back and risk getting trampled to death to pick it up. This is the 2nd time so now it is sticky taped in there!

Highlight of today was woman wearing t shirt that read something like “Ok fine ... I will run but I am going to complain about it the whole time”. This pretty much summed it up today as my time was poor and it’s been an incredibly exhausting week!

20 1/2 hr day at work getting home 3 am on Friday morning.
This is getting to be very hard going!
“Only” attended work on Friday for 5 hours arriving 11:30 am.

Orienteering - Street Sydney (Fireclay Gully) 47:54 [3] 7.61 km (6:18 / km)

Took more than 1 hr 45 minutes to drive to the event!
Sydney traffic sucks.
Visited 20 controls for 370 points with a 30 point penalty dragging it down to 340 points.

Decided to stay out of the bush today and solely concentrate on the west side of the map with streets.
Not much point discussing route choice here as no one from Sydney is going to read it.

Got everything I pre marked with the exception of a 30 point control which I swapped out for a 20 point control to cut the distance back slightly.

I knew the most likely outcome was I would be late with 20 minutes to go but it was either stick to the original plan and 'maybe' make it .... or cut back early and miss out at least 70 points over 4 controls. I was at my last control, about 400 m from the finish, at the 45 minute mark ... but wasted at least 30-40 seconds looking for it so was happy to pull the time back (just by 6 seconds) under the 3 minute penalty mark.

Very happy to be back over 7 km again .... especially considering that every single area of Sydney to date seems fairly hilly. Time pressure forces better performance!

Not happy that my new Fitbit, that I have had for less than a month, died less than 1 km into the event. Tried recharging it but the screen wouldn't come back and the buttons did nothing. Went to their help page and forced a restart using their equivalent of Ctrl Alt Del (two buttons held in for 10 seconds) and it came back to life. Charge lasts less than 1 day so I am not fully convinced yet there is not a fault with it.

Slowest to date. Struggled and kept having to drop gears up hills. Tyres slow leak may need me to pump them up again.
