Run 5 km NSW - Official Nulkaba 28:59 [3] 5.0 km (5:48 / km)

Nulkaba parkrun launch. 6th launch. 3rd "N". 81st parkrun. 52nd location. Rewritten log after a crash.

Drove up from Sydney on Friday to maintain my Regionaire status and because KC was attending a Zumba event at Maitland so I would have been solo if I stayed in Sydney.

Nice catchup with a number of Newcastle people I have either not seen for months, or not since I left Australia. This included tinytoes, rockman, leepback, mapgirl and a wide variety of Wooters.

KC in attendance was wearing my 2nd Wooters top (she has joined the group as she likes the friendly encouraging atmosphere) but it was under multiple layers of jackets at the start. I have learnt it is better for me to be at the start shivering than having to strip off and carry multiple layers within the first km.

Surprised by my finish time as I was delayed by an equipment malfunction (dropping my iPhone and running back to save it getting trampled) which also prevented me having a timer to monitor progress throughout the run.

Didn't like the large number of potential ankle breakers in the dirt and grass over the first km (but I am pretty sensitive to ever repeating my right ankle again) where due to the large crowd you couldn't look ahead. I liked the concept where the course looped back over itself allowing you to see the faster and slower runners as you progressed. This is a unique idea that I had not seen before at any of my prior locations.

Joined the Wooter Wall high fiving people at the finish which most been seemed to accept in good humour.

Next week Wildflower (Kuringai) launch solo. KC at Sydney Zumba event.
This will allow me to join the Internet Club (WWW - with West Beach, Willoughby and Wildlower).

Now that I have met my initial target of 50 locations my next stretch target is a years worth - 52 tourism runs in a row (currently on 28) - this will become fairly difficult (unless I move to Melbourne or Brisbane).

I have mapped out the next 3 months and aim to get to 65 different locations. Along the way I will collect a few more of the rare letters (H, J, Q and others) and join the Pirates Club (7C1R) and complete everything in the Sydney area to claim Raefarer status.

KC joining me for the parkrun ride when she is not at Zumba.
Weekends I am in Newcastle, with no new runs available, I may start Volunteering.

Note

"Avengers - Infinity War" with my twin brother.

Now I can go back on the Internet again without having to avoid pages and pages of potential spoilers!

(rest day)

Drove up to Newcastle.
KC had booked us in to attend a fundraiser Movie Night for Rotary.
It wasn't at all what I expected.

This was at someones house at Egdeworth.
They had built into a large garage space a permanent 60 seat movie theatre complete with real movie seats, screen, curtains, lighted stairs, fancy ceiling, mens and womens toilets, and working actual film projector.
The floor was sloped like a theatre but not quite as steep so had to bob a bit around peoples heads.

The owner had been in the film business since he was 12 and had either worked in, operated, or owned theatres and drive ins all around Newcastle.

I had a long talk with the owner, including showing me setting up and splicing the films together and it was fascinating.

The movie even had a 1940s Mickey Mouse cartoon, and a news reel about the 1949 Maitland Floods, so it was a very unexpected and enjoyable experience.

Apparently his father and brother are also in the business and at his brothers house there is a small private 12 car drive in theatre!

Note

Return to dayshift, and away from supervision of factory, is awesome.
Back on proper engineering work and dealing with major issues and long term fixes again.
Get to sleep in until 6:30 am, arrive at work between 7:30 and 8 am, and exit after 4:30 pm.
The dayshift crew are still asking me supervisor questions but at least I can reclaim some stability and restore a daily routine.
