chase. i felt quite a lot of pressure starting with a small lead and unlike yesterday didnt find enough confidence to take my time. ended up running way further through the flat than i thought to the first control, eventually climbing up again one ridge to the right of my intended line. it was actually an okay route if id have known which hill i was on, but i didnt and when it got a bit doubtful and i resorted to compass back-up it took me waaaaay off the right track. so after that it was a bit of an anticlimax. i tried to find some fight and motivation to climb back up the train but the wind had gone out my sails a bit. i think in the past i might have given up altogether, but these days that's not really me.
i suppose a smart tactic looking at just today's result would have been to wait for the pack at the start, but that's not me either and like to think this experience was a little bit more formative for more important races in the future, even though it was painful!
