Very tough go, was really unsure if I'd make it through but hung on by the tiniest thread, probably because my FTP was incorrectly wet at my old 296! NP 264W.

Back at it with another Snowshoe Raid with Logie. Now in Masters category (which I did not know was an optional category!). Friday night carpool up with Bash and 'Bent, great dinner with them and Dee our hostess.

Arrived at Blue at 8:30 where Bill and I devised a route to clear the course but with several cutoffs. The strategy changed once we found out we didn't need to punch in and out (right away) from the Matrix, however, we just adjusted our times a bit as our main route didn't change much.

Race started with a road section up a bit of hill then into the matrix where Bill and I split up. I got 2 and 9 while Bill went for 3 others. Unfortunately this section didn't go well for us and I watched Tarno/Hammer and Tiny/Eddie gain 10mins on us until Bill and I regrouped. Since we now weren't setting tracks we just chipped away at their lead realizing they had the exact same route choice. Once we caught up to them we settled in to the congo line; it wasn't ideal but it was hard to break trail knowing Hammer and Tarno were leading - one a NA O champ, the other who lives up there and seemingly knew every trail. The congo line lasted perhaps almost an hour?? Seemed a long time until Tarno had a snowshoe malfunction as we hit the climb back up the escarpment and Tiny turned the screws of what was formerly a nice pace (we were now on trail snowpack, not more whacking). Once we hit the road we grabbed the CP's into the matrix while the others dropped 2; I guess not sure if they could get them all before the matrix punch in check-in. We had maybe 4 mins to spare and moved uncomfortably quickly (aka redline). It was nice to be on our own and we knew once we made the cutoff we were pretty safe in our position (since we had also seen Gally/Storm about 10mins back). A final push to the finish including a poor last CP choice wrapped it up for us. Fun times!

In the end our f*ck-up in the matrix probably was a good thing as we had better navigators in front breaking trail - thanks Hammer/Tarno and MBR. Unlike in years past our time/rogaine management finally came through as hoped. I was also very glad we didn't have a 3-team snowshoe sprint going into the last section (especially since there were so many teams in there)!

Great to see a lot of familiar AR and O faces and always a great course/banquet setup from Bob/DGL. Apparently I've made 9/10 of these, as I was saying to Bash on our way home, not bad for a guy who doesn't like winter!

That sucked. Awful terrible attempt at re-introducing some intensity by way of SF/HHNF. Normally do-able, not even close, pulled the chute at 42mins after some near pukage. Verifies the 2016_mancold_strain_1.0 still lingering. NP257W.
