Long Mynd Valleys, English Champs Race, 28th.

Happy with that as a start. The race went off relatively fast, but I got into a decent position and steadily moved up the first small hill, only to lose about 5 places on the descent. My descending skills, especially down steeper stuff, aren't as good as those around me, but THE FIRST CHAMPS RACE SHOULDN'T BE MY FIRST FELL RACE OF THE YEAR. In shouty bold so that I remember, I need to get my descending legs moving earlier.

After that it's mainly fast good running all the way down to the far end of the course. Caught up with the group of 4 including Tom, Sam Stead, Gav Mulholland and Ben Abdelnoor and ran with them until Tom got a second wind and pulled away. The climbs and descents all the way back to Yearlet went well overtaking a few on the climbs and switching places with Sam and Ben on the descents (them overtaking me!). The last climb up Yearlet though was a bit of a monster 35% gradient and it finished me off. Adam Perry came past at the start of the climb and finished in 22nd, so I dropped a fair amount. I wasn't overly tired, but clearly need to keep working on multiple ascents and probably should have taken on some gels/food/water.

Decent start to the series, just a shame a few injuries marred the team result. I was third counter behind Matt and Tom, which I was chuffed with given I normally don't count, but I hope this won't count to the team score at the end of the series. By my calculations we were 4th team behind Keswick, Helm Hill and P&B.
