Quite hungover from 5 pints!, so stayed in bed longer than expected, which wasn’t ideal as the 40mph winds were due in Edale at lunchtime, Just I started my run! A very steady effort starting at Heatherdeane, although having to work quite hard in the wind. Up Win Hill, still lots of trees down in the woods. Down through Twitchill farm, up Lose Hill. Then along the ridge to Mam Tor and back, which was muddier in places than the cross country, which I wasn’t quite expecting, but it does get a lot traffic - mainly in hunter wellies. I was going to add on a bit more distance after the return to Lose hill but happy with a steady shorter run after yesterday. Back up Win hill was a bit of a slog, but stopped at the gate to tell some walkers which way Edale was, I hope they had a torch.

Warm up

Running race 46:43 [5] 7.74 mi (6:02 / mi) +140m 5:43 / mi

National XC, Wollaton Park, 318th.

Very much enjoyed the day and the spectacle of the race, but disappointed with my run. Just not as fit as I need to be. I should have ran well over a relatively tough course, although perhaps I need a very hilly mud bath to do really well, as I just lack the speed for the flatter/firm courses. If we’d had 3 large laps up to the house I would have fared better, but you can understand why they’ve changed the course and I did enjoy the variation in it. Bit of fun at the end as coming into the home straight Andy Thake, who I knew was close when Neil cheered him on, came barrelling past as we’d turned the corner, if it had been a runner from any other club I wouldn’t have been so galvanised, but managed a kick for home to come past Andy shortly afterwards, so close we were given the same time! A fun ending to a poor race.

Trying to chase down Paul

Looking back the last few sessions have actually been marginally faster than last year (albeit my mileage was higher then), so disappointed that this was a bit slow. I found it to be a tough session, a little tired from Sunday maybe and the jump in weekly mileage.
