Warm up

Running race 47:05 [5] 5.93 mi (7:56 / mi) +420m 6:30 / mi

I’ve not done enough long running so I decided to run something more relay specific at Shelf Moor. For me that means I don’t have 4 scoring races for the English Champs this year. There looked to have been some decent points on offer at Castle Carr and I didn’t help the team, although that’s largely immaterial given this year’s scoring. So disappointing to miss out. Anyway chance to blow some cobwebs away and remind myself what a fast short race was like. Stu Bond and Jack Ross were ahead along the valley track, I overtook Jack as the hill started, but Stu was probably 30s ahead already, so just a time trail to grind out the climb. Certainly felt better on the climb than I did on the flat. As we started the gradual descent round the top of the course Jack came back past, which I wasn’t really expecting, I thought I’d dropped him in all honesty, so then just a matter of trying to keep in touch on the descent. Finished 3rd. decent race, although slow time (partially wind affected on the tops) and running most of it by myself, but that should help for the next few races before the relays.

Easy loop down to Beeley and back, not quite sure why I thought running through a busy Hillsborough at lunchtime was a good idea.

White and Froggatt edges loop from the Fox House. Beautiful evening to be out running, getting onto the road above the Grouse was difficult as had to jump 3 walls to avoid cows and a bull protecting their calves! Saw the deer from white edge trig though.
