XC day 2, except it lasted for 13 miles. Nice loop from Longshaw to Birchen Edge and back. Pretty grim weather at times and very muddy, legs mashed. A good long plod though.

Northern XC Champs. 139th.
I was looking forward to the event and being involved but not necessarily the racing. However the right decision to race, even if it’s just to set a baseline before the Nationals. An incredibly flat course, but it turned out to be pretty muddy, especially away from the start/finish area into the woods. Started off way down and thought it was going to be a long grind to the finish, but once I’d settled in I started passing people, especially in the deep mud through the woods. This continued right up until the last mile or so, so a decent effort all told. Obvs wasn’t expecting to be anywhere near the team today but for the record I was 8th Hallamshire, 1:15 back from Matt and 1:50 back from Wyatt. In the race between the injured and the unfit I had the usual battle with Nic, pipping him by about 50secs and Tedwards was days behind 1min+!
I finished much higher than I thought I would which was unexpected, so perhaps my base fitness isn’t quite as bad as I thought. Hopefully I can get fitter before the Nationals.

Hobble down as my legs had seized up.

6 x800m (90s) down in the flatlands. Sort of replicating the track session, the odd car/person/lamppost in the way but not a bad loop for faster stuff.

Warm down, slightly longer route home.
