Normal Orienteering race (Southern Champs - Hambled) 2:14:01 [4] *** 17.1 km (7:50 / km) +750m 6:26 / km
shoes: Swoops

Not sure why I keep entering Mens Elite, I am so not competitive at this level - getting VFM though!

Think I entered this race with the wrong mindset today and psyched myself out before I'd even started - 17km isn't really that far and I should have been able to push harder from the start.... but then again I have put a lot of distance in already this week! So all the excuses listed for not really performing at where I think I should have.

Didn't really make any major nav errors on control locations, did miss a really good route choice that would have saved me a lot of climb though.

Enjoyed Kinda

Normal Orienteering race (JOK Chasing Sprint) 49:05 [4] ***
shoes: Swoops

Usual format for a chasing sprint a prologue and a chase, but results only showing combined time and so input this time as race time.

Had a reasonable prologue but felt so sluggish - think its a combination of a poor nights sleep and still not having recovered properly from Portugal....

Turns out it wasn't a bad run as came in 41st a way clear of both Ollie and Evan who had poor runs.

Unfortunately for the chase I was off approx a minute behind the guy in front and so no real opportunity to chase him down and meant I was leading a pack of 12 off all in the next minute or so.... held them off until approx control 6 where I went slightly off line and they went past me and it took me the majority of the rest of the race to reel them in.

Actually not a bad run, reeled Tim Tett in going up a hill, but got done on the run in by Ed Nicolas, ended up a credible 44th, not bad considering I felt like I didn't run to the best I can - bodes well for the future.

NB: Need to read the instructions in future, turns out that you only run to the line, not the control and its bad form to barge the person in front of you out of the way to get to it and not queue up (Ed)....
