MDC Run - Morganstown (Ty Nant) to The Garth

Big group with a few new faces. From Gwaelod, we ran up the disused railway line to the northern portal of the old tunnel which now runs through the quarry. But there was no path from there. So we traversed the eastern flanks of the quarry (outside) and up to the top. I had expected to see a path around the perimeter of the quarry edge but there was none to the south. We wanted to go south around the perimeter but had to go north i.e. the long way around.

A few went back down to the road but Emma B, Keri James, Tim Green and I went around the quarry in an anti-clockwise direction. They all loved it as they'd never been up there before.

We arrived last back in the car park at Ty Nant then headed off to Alan Stone's house for grub!

Road bike 15:00 [1] 2.5 mi (10.0 mph)

Ride from Ty Nant to home. Forgot to log the route so a guess.

Maratona dles Dolomites Granfondo

A fantastic sportive/granfondo in the Italian Dolomites with Beppe. He was strong on the climbs but was not a good descender so I waited for him at the bottoms after being given the freedom to have some descending fun!

Moving time according to Strava was 7hr 21m. I could probably get my time down from a sub-8hr to 7hr 15m if given a little freedom. We lost time at the summits too when he needed to stretch and grab food etc.

Might go back one year.

Clothing
Shoes: Giro xx
Socks: X-Socks Trek Light

Buff (but took off on first climb)
Windproof: Montane thin but strong one (shiny material)
Carried but not worn: Montane Montane Minimus

Food:
Carried about 2 packs of shot bloks and about 5 gels. Also ate solid food at some of the fee stations. Food included jam cake (yum), cheese, salami, cheese and ham sandwiches, choc waffle chunks, coca cola, Enervit (Italian electrolyte drink), Water, fruit juice, bananas. Most summits had food.

Hydration: Carried 2 x 450 ml bottles. Refilled as and when needed. Not sure how much I drank to be honest.

Temp: Topped out at about 28 deg C I think. Was high teens when we started at about 7am.

I started with Beppe in the yellow pen because that's what Beppe had from the ballot. I had a blue pen ticket so I coudl have started ahead of him and the masses but we agreed to do it together. He suggested that I start in the blue and wait for me at the top but I declined.
