MTB 7:11:11 [1] 59.66 km (8.3 kph) +1079m

ITERA 2019

Leg 10 MTB

We were all very sleepy on this leg but keen to get to the finish without having to stop to sleep. We passed about 5-7 teams on this leg too.

I dinged my rear rim pretty bad which meant that 5 spokes became untensioned and the wheel went out of alignment 75km from the end. We were lucky to make it to he finish!

Finished third overall!

Paddling 16:00:19 [1] 55.33 km (3.5 kph) +328m

ITERA 2019 - Leg 3c (Paddle & Portages)

Wow this was a tough leg! It involved hauling the Ocean Kayak XL SoTs over rocky terrain, heather, walls and fences. We used slings to pull them along on these sections as the portage wheels were not suitable. This was particularly true for the section from Suilven to CP8 at the western coast.

We made good ground up on Kevin/Tim Stephens' team along the coast too.

6 PM

Transition 2:04:41 [1] 0.33 km (6:14:25 / km) +24m 4:35:14 / km

Transition TA3-4 including canyoning section which wasn't logged by trackers.

Walking 14:08:54 [1] 37.43 km (2.6 kph) +1600m

ITERA 2019 Leg 4 Trek

We decided to drop CPs 14, 15 and 16 which would mean that we'd leave the long course and be 'short coursed.' I didn't like this but acknowledged that it was necessary to try and avoid the 8 hour penalty for missing the white water rafting on Thursday.

ITERA 2019 - Leg 0 (Run)

Team #8: Team Endurancelife
Team Members: Gary Davies, Tom Davies, Ben Turner, Lucy Noble

Anti-clockwise run from Dunrobin Castle and around to the coast.

Took it relatively easy.

10 AM

Paddling 3:14:38 [1] 19.64 km (6.1 kph)

ITERA 2019 - Leg 1 (Paddle)

Paddle from Dunrobin Castle to Glenmorangie Distillery on Sit On Tops around Dornoch Point.

I found this quite uncomfortable as the backrests weren't quite fixed properly.

Tom and Ben paddled together whilst Lucy and I teamed up with me at the front.

We arrived at the distillery in 9th position.

1 PM

MTB 7:11:57 [1] 110.0 km (15.3 kph) +1500m

ITERA 2019 - Leg 2 (MTB)

From Glenmorangie DIstillery, through Morangie Forest to CP2 (sheepfold). Tom suffered a split tyre on this section. He tried plugging it with a bung but wasn't successful so we inserted a tyre boot and tube. Tom had incorrectly labelled his 26" tube as a 29"! So I think we used Ben's tube instead. Probably lost about 15 minutes here. Nav was tricky in places. There were three main route choices taken by the various teams to CP2.

CP2 to CP3 (Forestry Commission Sign): We were the 6th team to CP3 even though we had a puncture.

CP3 to CP4 (Gate across road):

CP4 to CP5 (bridge): this leg passed through Oykel Bridge then up the Oykel River Valley.

CP5 to TA2-3: Long road section leading into the transition. We got into TA 1hr 20m after SWECO who were the first team to arrive.

Transition 24:55 [0] 0.26 km (1:35:50 / km) +14m 1:15:30 / km

Transition TA1-2

Paddle to MTB. Forgot my MTB shorts so had to wear Lucy's spare cycle shorts!

MTB to Paddle

9 PM

Paddling 1:49:45 [1] 8.92 km (4.9 kph) +10m

ITERA 2019 - Leg 3a (Paddle)

From TA2-3 to the landing site for the trek up to Suilven.

11 PM

Walking 2:42:58 [1] 5.34 km (2.0 kph) +570m

ITERA 2019 - Leg 3b (Suilven Trek)

From the landing site for the trek up to Suilven & back. We struggled to find the kayaks on our return to the water's edge and probably lost half an hour as a result. Another team had used lit signals to demarcate their boats for easy identification from afar.
