Orienteering tempo 16:04 [4] 3.91 km (4:07 / km) +20m 4:00 / km

Morning before flight out of NZ, we were close, so I reran the NZ Sprint Champs at the Auckland Botanical gardens. Thought I wasn't hammering quite as hard as the race, but time was fair (~1 minute better.)
Running warm up/down 10:40 [2] 1.45 km (7:21 / km)
ahr:114 shoes: O-VJ-Grey-Spikes
Running 42:24 [3] 7.33 km (5:47 / km) +50m 5:36 / km
ahr:138 max:155 shoes: O-VJ-Grey-Spikes
Upolu, Samoa, Aggies Grey restort. ~85-90 deg, sunny, humid. Moderate migraine in the evening...

Note this was my 2nd run on 4/18, but it was the next day... I crossed the dateline and moved 1 hour (-23...) So either my 42 seconds on a 747 on 4/3 counts, or my unwound-dates (ignore the dateline) run-every-day counts, and I've still run every day in '07...

Tuesday Apr 17

Running (Trails) 42:40 [2] 7 km (6:06 / km)
ahr:125 max:145 shoes: R-NB Grey Shoes
Karangahake Gorge Ran through some trails, gold mining tracks and mining tunnels with a really weak flashlight (had to walk ~5 minutes of the "run"). Pretty cool tunnel network at one point in a mountain on the side of a cliff-walled gorge with "windows" overlooking the gorge, and a small network of publically accessible trails inside the mountain.

Monday Apr 16

Running long 2:45:00 [2] 19 km (8:41 / km) +1300m 6:28 / km
ahr:136 max:155 shoes: R-NB Grey Shoes
The Tongariro Crossing - "One of New Zealand's Great Hikes". 19km, 1300m climb (uphill direction), 2:45 (Angelica did the reverse 19km, 900m climb in 2:37)

Often-rocky trail, one-way. Started in jungle like forest at 15C, up to high brush, then grass, then sparse grass, then barren rocky landscape.
Passed multiple thermal vents, saw a few dozen volcanic craters, including one still actively venting hot gas (Red Crater)
(on the downwind side as I got pelted by small hail at ~3C, while running in shorts - this was near the summit of the run.)
On the way back down I passed some huge lava rock outcrops, and the cliffs and steep rocky slopes of "Mt. Doom" (from LoTR movies).
