Running 1:11:00 intensity: (25:00 @1) + (46:00 @2) 11.78 km (6:02 / km) +300m 5:21 / km
shoes: R-NB 461 Black

To the track and back with both kids, individually, where Oriana set an 800m PR (5:03) and AJ set an 800m PR for the year (3:50, vs. 3:38 last April w/a rival.) Both reasonably impressive in that at least they both made a reasonable effort at the Time Trial.

And then a loop with Angelica, Jenni & Magnus (surprise) through VF park, w/Angelica who was trying to work up an appetite for a brunch buffet, but, on only coffee, @ 11am, just felt way too tired for a bit - then bounced back with some determination to get home to the kids and brunch.

Orienteering race 45:44 [3] 9.06 km (5:03 / km) +180m 4:36 / km
shoes: O-Inov8 Oroc 340

A crazy DVOA summer meeting relay format, and AJ (my intended partner) had a birthday conflict, so it worked out kinda strange. Lots of running, only some in zone 4 due to working out the quirkiness of the Relay.

Technically valuable, as memory O' segments was one reasonable option, and my best bit was to memorize 5 controls on Orange in about 60 seconds of checking the map. Helps to be somewhat familiar with the park, but was happy all the same for the practice.

Physically, it wasn't a great workout, and the family had Father's day plans, incl. 3 different 1-1 runs w/me, so no other hard race this weekend. Maybe will put a tempo run on Monday?

Logistically, I'm a little upset that the sore ball of my left foot after a trail race in my ORoc 340's seems to be due a cleat (dobb spike) which is slowly denting it's way into the sole of the shoe, and hurt again, even through my super-feet insoles (only the softer part is up there.) The bumps are visible inside the shoe, and the biggest one hurt my foot again quite a bit on today's race, just like it hurt after the Wissahickon trail ace. With relatively weak feet, I'm afraid these shoes need to be retired, which leaves me without spikes.

What O'spikes should I get?

I want a lighter shoe this time (e.g. like the Oroc 280's, or older VJ's) but I'm concerned about:
- VJ-Integrator lifespan (others complain a lot, but they've worked for me)
- OROC 280 - maybe having the same issue with cleat pressing through as I just had?
- IceBugs - these seem good, but the uppers seem to shred a little quickly (on rocks...)
