Running warm up/down 30:00 [2] 4.5 km (6:40 / km) +50m 6:19 / km
shoes: R-NB 481 Gray/Orange 2

About 1/3 warm-up, and 2/3 cool-down incl. shadowing AJ for fun. He's fast these days :)

Orienteering race 19:27 [4] *** 3.4 km (5:43 / km) +85m 5:05 / km
21c shoes: R-NB 481 Gray/Orange 2

WMOC Sprint Qualifier

Very surprised to finish 4th in my heat, as I'd made a 1 minute error early on - but after that I was pretty clean through some tricky sections, so apparently that was the difference.

Running shoes (no spikes allowed) sucked on some of the steep grassy downhills...

Evening jog in Sestriere Borgota exploring the little town our hotel was in.

Running 24:00 [2] 3.5 km (6:51 / km) +100m 6:00 / km

Up & down the hill in Monterossa - roads that turn to trails, and eventual dead ends at walls or houses are plentiful - could've probably done an hour w/o fully painting this little village. But alas, Angelica was hungry for breakfast, so I returned to the hotel and showered as AJ was waking up.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.5 km (6:40 / km) +50m 5:43 / km
shoes: O-Icebug - Black Spirit II OLX

Italy 5 day, Apinines, Day 5 of 5... Warming up to the start after some crazy parking setup where we were put 2km from the arena, with no signage as to busing. We eventually found it, but not without limited time to run out to the start.
10 AM

Orienteering race 1:17:53 intensity: (12 @0) + (12 @1) + (30:13 @2) + (34:18 @3) + (12:58 @4) 8.68 km (8:59 / km) +466m 7:05 / km
ahr:150 max:171 shoes: O-Icebug - Black Spirit II OLX

Really sloppy start, incl. a slightly misplaced control (25m - wrong boulder cluster) I'm pretty sure, and my 10 minute head start in the chase (after good results on technical days 1 & 4), was much narrower - but the chasers were apparently losing time too, so in the end, I won M35 by a ~10 minute margin.

Running 7:00 [2] 1.2 km (5:50 / km)

Running warm up/down 8:00 [2] 1.3 km (6:09 / km) +100m 4:27 / km
shoes: O-Icebug - Black Spirit II OLX

Day 4 of 5. In some highly varied tricky terrain, including hilly rock mazes reminiscent of a West Point crossed with COC/EWOC US Sprint Champs a few years ago, plus flatter areas of highly mixed vegetation - a wide variety of navigation skills in use today.

2nd in M35 when I left - and moved into 1st overall, as only two of us were semi-clean, not including the previous 1st and 2nd overall... Two other positives:
- M20/M21E/M35 all shared the same course, which was also a WRE - and I finished less than 6 minutes behind Martin Bostrom, which would've put me 15th of 38 in M21E.
- Ethan Childs beat me (perhaps 3rd in M20?) - even after giving up hope about halfway through (not realizing that this terrain was so hard that even the elites were losing 10/20 sec multiple times, and even minutes on more than one occasion...) Go US Team!

Orienteering race 1:07:10 intensity: (17:10 @2) + (35:00 @3) + (15:00 @4) ***** 7.0 km (9:36 / km) +250m 8:08 / km

Running warm up/down 7:00 [2] 1.2 km (5:50 / km) +10m 5:36 / km
shoes: R-NB 481 Gray/Orange 2

Stage 3 warm up

Orienteering race 54:00 intensity: (24:00 @3) + (30:00 @4) 8.6 km (6:17 / km)
shoes: R-NB 481 Gray/Orange 2

Solid first half - 2nd and 15 from 1st at that point,
then 1 bogey :45, then :15, then a stolen control, and jogged it in from there

Provisional result just used actual times for the whole course, where I'm 4th and 5 min back... :(

Running 12:00 [1] 1.0 km (12:00 / km) +100m 8:00 / km
shoes: R-NB 481 Gray/Orange 2

The semi-challenging part of shadowing Oriana - a few jogs, and the stair climbs where she marched quite well - in Campogli - a sight-seeing, and steep-crazy fun Sprint map.

Orienteering 35:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (10:00 @3) + (10:00 @4) *** 5.0 km (7:00 / km) +300m 5:23 / km
18c shoes: R-NB 481 Gray/Orange 2

Mass Start Elite Sprint @ Camogli - as training though, skipping a few controls here and there to rest, then trying to run alongside some of the faster elites for a bit. They are fast - and can double-stair jog down steep irregular staircases notably better than I can. Fun run :)

Easy late night jog. Lots of people out in the urban waterfront at 2330+

Lots of walking and climb in Genoa then Monte Carlo earlier in the day.
