Run 3:15:34 [2] 18.0 mi (10:52 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 295's

footbridge to sabine and back with Miles (9.5). trails with Htrex (~8.5). Felt pretty good all day until the last half hour. i completely bonked. could barely move one foot in front of the other. started to recover in the last 5 minutes or so, but by then the damage was done and so was i. all in all, it was pretty good long day. lots of miles and some bonking.

Friday Jul 30, 2010 #

Run 46:04 [2] 5.5 mi (8:23 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Launch

memorial+. extremely fatigued. i think i'm still in healing mode from yesterday's therapy session.

Thursday Jul 29, 2010 #

Note

More release therapy from Kiki. very painful and slow to recover.

Wednesday Jul 28, 2010 #

Run 1:01:45 [2] 7.5 mi (8:14 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Launch

memorialx2+. ran 7.5 and walked 1 mile home. was going to run 8.5 but after 7.5 i felt good and didn't want to push it too much. it was a good place to stop and walk it in. so, i got 8.5 miles on the feet.

Tuesday Jul 27, 2010 #

Run 57:31 [2] 7.0 mi (8:13 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Launch

Sabine from home - keep feeling really pulled-down. not myself. don't know what's up...

Saturday Jul 24, 2010 #

Run 2:12:24 [2] 11.75 mi (11:16 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 295's

HMC trails with group. felt pretty good. calf held up, but it's sore now. not too bad, though. very humid today for a change.

Friday Jul 23, 2010 #

Run 56:59 [2] 6.5 mi (8:46 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Launch

memorial+. actually felt pretty darn good in the calf today. maybe it was Kiki's magic death-touch or maybe it was time or maybe it was the half a bottle of cabernet i put down last night... in any event, the calf was pretty cool today... unlike the hell-fire heat that scorched my lungs and eyes throughout the entire run. i did have to walk twice, rather i chose to walk twice, but both times were under 30 seconds.

Thursday Jul 22, 2010 #

Note

Physical therapy - the most painful experience of my life, i think... myofascial release with Kiki, who absolutely must be the sadist of all sadists. had to ice 4 times during the day after. couldn't walk without significant pain. no running today.

Wednesday Jul 21, 2010 #

Run 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Hyper Speed 4 #2

KW - final day of KW and final two-mile time trial.

felt like shit warmed over... but, managed to do alright. 2 miles uphill on shin-deep grass in hot/humid weather complete with the ever-present nausea and the other problem and i still ran 14-flat. 7:02 and 6:58. so, for feeling like absolute ass in tough conditions, it was a respectable effort. not great, but respectable. i didn't just bag it, i actually tried to work a little. that has to count for something. i think...

Tuesday Jul 20, 2010 #

Run 57:25 [2] 6.0 mi (9:34 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 295's

HCM trails - endless/green out-n-back. felt pretty good in sloppy conditions. 29:51 out/ 27:34 back for a nice and controlled negative split.

been in a funk for a couple of weeks and needed to hit the reset button. hopefully after today i can start to get back on track and find a little motivation.

Saturday Jul 17, 2010 #

Run 1:31:17 [2] 9.0 mi (10:09 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 295's

memorial loop and hcm trails for a short run. took it easy today. felt nauseated and really tired. needed a break. feel really guilty, though, for cutting it so short. i'll probably get over it pretty quick.

Friday Jul 16, 2010 #

Run 1:11:30 [2] 8.0 mi (8:56 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Launch

memorialx2. only very marginally better than yesterday. i didn't break apart and almost die, but i didn't feel very chipper either. keep on keeping on, i guess.

Thursday Jul 15, 2010 #

Run 1:04:37 [2] 7.5 mi (8:37 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Launch

Sabine long. Today was without any doubt or hyperbole the single worst run I've had this year. I completely blew up. I actually had to stop for a while and sit. The time is completely misleading because I turned off the watch while I sat or stopped. I have no idea what's going on. Sure, it was scalding at around a 106+ heat index but everyday is like that. I'm completely at a loss. I think it may be better to forget today ever happened and just move on.

Wednesday Jul 14, 2010 #

Run 1:00:00 [3] 7.5 mi (8:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Hyper Speed 4 #2

KW - 250-ish meter intervals. medium-hard effort. 12 minutes - 3 minute rest - 12 minutes. ran the short loop before workout and, as always, to and from the house.

Tuesday Jul 13, 2010 #

Run 1:15:30 [2] 7.75 mi (9:45 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 295's

HCM. endless loop to green out and back with Miles. about 1.75 on my own. still feeling a little fatigued from saturday and yesterday's KW workout but at least the weather wasn't horrific. i think saturday may have taken a little more out of me than i thought. i feel fine, i'm just getting fatigued a little more than normal.

Monday Jul 12, 2010 #

Run 1:00:00 [3] 7.0 mi (8:34 / mi)
shoes: Asics Hyper Speed 4

KW - hills, hills, hills. 10 minutes of continuous hill repeats, short rest, 10 minutes repeats. hard effort.

Saturday Jul 10, 2010 #

Run 3:52:28 [2] 21.0 mi (11:04 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 295's

Huntsville SP w/ HTREx - went to do the 20 and ended up missing a turn but all was good.

the good: good mileage, good time on the feet, good to see everyone. lots of really strong folks who are training and getting really fit right now. didn't take a gel until over 2 hours, helping me get back into the fat-burning mode, which was good. my new running watch was good.

the bad: horrific humidity might have led to a little dehydration even though i feel i was pretty on top of it. Got some nasty nausea in the last two or so miles and even though my body felt ok, when i tried to run a little harder my stomach did back-flips. forced to shuffle and power-hike the hills in order not to spew.

the ugly: nothing really. not too bad.

Friday Jul 9, 2010 #

Run 1:00:00 [2] 6.5 mi (9:14 / mi)
shoes: Asics Hyper Speed 4 #2

memorial+.

Q: Riddle me this, what's the difference between today's run and being forced into eternal service as the Devil's butt-plug in the afterlife?

A: Being Satan's eternal anal-bead would, undoubtedly, be cooler and more pleasant than today's run, not to mention that you wouldn't be exposed to the direct Houston sun.

recovery pace. both hamstrings were sore and tweaking and both hip flexors were pretty tight after monday's and thursday's runs. needed to take it easy. couple of little walks, too.

Thursday Jul 8, 2010 #

Run 1:00:00 [3] 7.5 mi (8:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Launch

KW cancelled again due to weather. Went to the dreaded gym.

1 mile @ 8:40

5 miles @ 7:20 each

1 mile @ 6:55

walked .5 mile until the 1 hour mark.

Wednesday Jul 7, 2010 #

Note

Day and night 38 of 40. Still raining... KW cancelled and rescheduled for Thursday.

Tuesday Jul 6, 2010 #

Run 1:04:18 [2] 7.0 mi (9:11 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Launch

memorial+. humidity i can deal with. heat i can deal with. what's killing me is the direct, overhead sun. it just kills me. i guess i'll just have to suck it up on tuesday and thursday and run early in the morning without any recovery time... i can't run in the heat of the day anymore. all in all, not horrible considering i walked a few times. so, probably 8:20 pace when running.

Monday Jul 5, 2010 #

Run 1:00:00 [3] 7.0 mi (8:34 / mi)
shoes: Asics Hyper Speed 4

KW - following a completely undeserved and unearned 3 days off from the running arts, i jumped back into the deep end in order to get back on schedule. very hard KW workout today.

progressive 6 x 200 meters hard uphill the whole way

one mile on the cloverleaf at 6:40

progressive 6 x 200 meters hard uphill the whole way

sprints, sustained hard effort, sprints. i'm going to be sore.
