Run 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - Black

KW. 3 x 1.5 mile @ tempo. Workout was good and crap at the same time. Felt good to run faster than I'm used to but it was very disheartening to see how slow I've become. Plus, I twisted my ankle pretty well and I'll probably have to take a day or two off. But, for only my 3rd speed workout in the last 9 months, I'll take it...

1 x 1.5 mile - warm-up
3 x 1.5 mile - 11:50; 11:27; 11:51

Run 1:14:30 [2] 8.0 mi (9:19 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - black

Home/green/endless. I don't know the particulars, but it felt incredibly humid this morning. Sweating even more than usual. Hot and miserable. The trails were some relief but not much.

Monday Aug 29, 2011 #

Run 1:07:17 [2] 8.0 mi (8:25 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - black

Memorial x2. 109 on Saturday. 107 on Sunday. 109 today. It's just brutal. When the temps finally get to 90-95, it's going to feel about 20 degrees cooler.

Sunday Aug 28, 2011 #

Yoga 1:15:00 [3]

Joy Yoga. Hard class with different instructor, Jessica. Lots of core work and balancing work. Good stuff.

Saturday Aug 27, 2011 #

Run 48:11 [2] 5.5 mi (8:46 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - black

Memorial. Glutes, hamstrings, and quads were still incredibly sore from Thursday weights. After 3 miles, the legs weren't interested in going any further and I was getting shin splints from running differently. Had to cut it short and just head home or risk another over-compensation type injury.

Friday Aug 26, 2011 #

Note

In San Antonio for a funeral.

Thursday Aug 25, 2011 #

Weights/Gym 30:00 [3]

Gym. faster and heavier. tried to really push it today. now, I'm tired. stupid.

Gym Cardio 25:00 [2]

Gym. Some incline walking. Have to make an unexpected trip to San Antonio today so I didn't really have time to do my normal routine of having a run then recover enough to do the weights in the afternoon. So, I just did weights in the a.m. and finished with a long cool-down by walking on the treadmill at an incline.

The calf bothers me more while walking than running.

Wednesday Aug 24, 2011 #

Run 1:22:55 [2] 8.0 mi (10:22 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 295 - black

Home/green/endless. Took it super-easy today with a run/walk. The calf felt fine for the most part. Only a couple of twinges. But, I just want to be extra conservative because the thought of getting hurt long-term and then having all this summer work go to waste is soul-destroying.

Tuesday Aug 23, 2011 #

Note

Taking a zero day to help heal calf injury.

Monday Aug 22, 2011 #

Run 1:15:40 [2] 8.0 mi (9:27 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - Black

Memorial x2. Run/walk. Felt really sore and stiff from the beginning so I started with 8/2's for a while then more walking later. This is really becoming a very frustrating, typical Monday pattern. Low energy and soreness on Mondays but it's usually better by Tuesday. Don't have any idea what's going on...

Sunday Aug 21, 2011 #

Walking 2:03:44 [2] 8.0 mi (15:28 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - black

Home/arboretum outer loop/home. Long Sunday walk with NB.

Saturday Aug 20, 2011 #

Run 2:50:21 [2] 15.0 mi (11:21 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Black

HCM Trails. Htrex Fatasstic 3 hr. run. Nice turnout for the fat ass run. My goal was pace management, run negative splits on each loop and start slow. It was super humid at the start. Went ~ 56, 48, and then 52. The third loop would've been sub-48 but I got stuck behind a bunch of bikers and then I spent some time talking to folks and not running. So, all in all, I'm pleased that I could've ran negatives if I had focused. Means I was pacing well.

Actual running time was ~2:36:00, which is slightly more respectable but not by much. Although, with this kind of heat and humidity I'm pretty happy just to have done it at all and I feel good about the effort. Especially for running the whole thing from the very first step on a queasy stomach.

Friday Aug 19, 2011 #

Run 44:26 [2] 5.5 mi (8:05 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - Black

Memorial. Same ol', same ol'... Just trying to get it done. Went a touch faster today but nothing big.

Thursday Aug 18, 2011 #

Run 1:02:33 [2] 7.5 mi (8:20 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - Black

Sabine. Hot, hot, hot. I may not run this route again for a while. It's a good route from the house but it's simply too exposed. Every time I run it, I feel like I'm going to drop from heat stroke by the time I get home. I'll wait for it to cool down at least a few degrees or only run it in the dark.

Wednesday Aug 17, 2011 #

Run 24:40 [2] 3.0 mi (8:13 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - black

Memorial. 3 mile progressive. Don't know the splits but each mile was definitely faster. Went from crawling to just slow. Last mile wasn't bad, sub-8. Extremely tired and sore from last night's torture-fest so I wasn't going to run at all but the short run actually made me feel better. Got in a little run and something's better than nothing.

Walking 28:05 [2] 2.0 mi (14:02 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - black

Memorial. Little cool down walk to relax and get a little extra time on my feet.

Tuesday Aug 16, 2011 #

Run 1:14:40 [2] 8.0 mi (9:20 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Black

Home/green/endless. Don't know what happened but I actually had a really good run. Consistent energy the whole way. Most importantly, I felt really strong on the way back and that never happens. Huge negative split of 1:58! That's about 30 sec/mi faster on the way back. 38:19 to the bleachers/ 36:21 home. Maybe the rest helped... who knows. It probably won't last but I'll take it.

Yoga 1:15:00 [3]

Joy Yoga. Natalie forced me to do things that aren't legal under the Geneva Convention. Brutal... I'm exhausted.

Monday Aug 15, 2011 #

Run 1:16:43 [2] 8.0 mi (9:35 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - black

Memorial x2. run/walk.

Sunday Aug 14, 2011 #

Walking 1:27:28 [2] 6.0 mi (14:35 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Black

Height's jogging trail and Heights bike path to I10 and back. Nice Sunday walk but it starting heating up on us. Saw Mariela and Frank riding bikes and talked for a bit. It was good in the shade but the exposed areas were pretty brutal toward the end.

Friday Aug 12, 2011 #

Walking 1:34:07 [2] 6.0 mi (15:41 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Black

Home/Green. Cooler in the shade and walking is always the best. I do enjoy the walking.

Thursday Aug 11, 2011 #

Weights/Gym 30:00 [3]

Gym. Circuit.

Walking 45:00 [2] 3.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Black

Houston Arboretum. Nice long walk, mostly shaded. Felt good.

Wednesday Aug 10, 2011 #

Run 1:03:25 [2] 7.5 mi (8:27 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Black

Sabine. Taking some sage advice, I think it's high-time for some down-time. A few days off from running in the pits of hell may be just the rejuvenation I need to get back into the swing of it.

Tuesday Aug 9, 2011 #

Run 41:55 [2] 5.0 mi (8:23 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Black

Memorial. The body is tired and a bit worn out right now. But, it's the mind that's truly suffering. Attempting to deal with the blindingly oppressive, stifling, gagging, ever-present, never-changing, mind-numbing, soul-crushing heat and humidity day after day after day after day... Motivation is in very, very short supply.

I just didn't want to run anymore today so I didn't. I didn't blow up or suffer anything else physical... I just couldn't deal with the weather anymore.

Monday Aug 8, 2011 #

Run 58:10 [2] 7.0 mi (8:19 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - Black

Memorial x2. Overheated and completely blew-up right before turning for home. Had to walk home. It's crazy f-ing hot out there.

Walking 15:45 [2] 1.0 mi (15:45 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - Black

Memorial to home. Walk of shame to the house after shutting down in the heat.

Sunday Aug 7, 2011 #

Yoga 1:15:00 [3]

Joy Yoga. Got destroyed by a Hungarian freight train that called herself Katalin. Very tough morning.

Saturday Aug 6, 2011 #

Run 1:52:11 [2] 12.0 mi (9:21 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 295 - black

Memorial loop/HCM trails. About 6.5 on the loop and road and about 5.5 with the group. Felt good today. No energy issues of note and kept a really consistent pace the whole morning. Only problem was that I turned my right ankle 3 times on the trails. I think it may be because I was wearing the wrong shoes. I think the lugs on the 295's were catching on all the little roots, vines, and rocks sticking up out of the super-dry trail... I should have worn the Saucony's, I think...

Friday Aug 5, 2011 #

Run 1:06:20 [2] 6.25 mi (10:37 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Black

Sabine. Walk/run. I didn't feel like walking today. I didn't feel like running today. So, I did both. In no way does it make sense. Whatever.

Weights/Gym 25:00 [3]

Gym. Moved a bit faster today and pushed it a little.

Thursday Aug 4, 2011 #

Run 58:51 [2] 6.0 mi (9:49 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Black

Home/Green. Recovery day. Took it easy and ran pretty even. I think I was positive by about 8 seconds. The trails were good for my tired legs. And more importantly, not being out in the direct sun is huge. The trails are hot, extremely humid, and a bit stale, but at least there's shade. For now... The drought will probably kill off the entire forest.

Wednesday Aug 3, 2011 #

Run 47:19 [2] 6.0 mi (7:53 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Black

Gym. Treadmill. Too hot to trot! Outside, that is...

6 mile progressive from ~8:30 down to ~7, 15-20 sec faster each mile.

Tuesday Aug 2, 2011 #

Run 1:15:18 [2] 8.0 mi (9:25 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Black

HCM trails. endless/green/purple. Felt like I was running hard and then I saw that I wasn't when I check my split at the gate. Ended up running back almost dead even... Hmmmm... Anyway, it's probably for the best because I didn't blow up and stayed consistent throughout and in this heat that's not too bad. Actually, it's about as much as I can realistically hope for.

Yoga 1:15:00 [3]

Joy Yoga. Substitute instructor today. She was good but it wasn't as difficult as with Natalie. A really good yoga session, though.

Monday Aug 1, 2011 #

Run 1:08:33 [2] 8.0 mi (8:34 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2 - Black

Memorial x2. Hot. Just started very slow and ran a negative. Managed to keep myself reasonably composed because of the slow start. I don't know if I'm proud of myself for getting out there or if I think I'm a raging moron or both.
