MTB 14:28 [1] 4.6 km (3:09 / km) +33m 3:02 / km
ahr:91 max:132

Ride from assembly area to start. Mostly gentle down slope on the rail trail.
11 AM

MTBO race 51:09 [5] 9.68 km (5:17 / km) +236m 4:43 / km
ahr:155 max:167

NZ MTBO Champs Middle. 5th again. A couple of navigation errors, one large and not fit or strong enough to keep up with the top kiwis at the moment.
Todays area was totally open farmland, grass and rocks, no tracks and many ups and downs. A struggle to push through the grass.
Lost about 6 minutes on 2, too high initially as headed direct east and was making the rocks and dips fit, also 2 others on my course on same heading kept me going too far in the wrong direction when I knew i should have stopped.
Lost maybe a minute going to 5, again a little high and could see control below me but decided it wasn’t mine, so looked a bit longer in the wrong place.
Lost maybe 30 seconds on 9, again could see control but my interpretation of map and contours didn’t fit.
Lost small amounts of time on 12 and 14 by contouring around big hills, controls ended up being higher than expected so had to ride up more than anticipated.
Disappointed with my long and middle results based on making navigation errors, though unlikely to have been better than 3rd in either based on my fitness and strength for riding hills.

MTB 20:04 [2] 3.4 km (5:54 / km) +130m 4:57 / km
ahr:118 max:151

Ride from assembly to start. Trying to take it easy though the first up hill was long and steep.
12 PM

MTBO race 1:28:14 [5] 13.77 km (6:24 / km) +342m 5:42 / km
ahr:157 max:174

NZ MTBO Champs - Long. I think I was 5th? A bit disappointed with that. Some lazy navigation. Lots of walking, up steep slopes and down steep loose and rocky slopes.
Turned too early into 1, arrived at a clear area, which is what I was looking for, with lots of wheel tracks on the grass, was just a little early, wasted some time.
Going through quarry 5-6 went out the wrong track, was vaguely in the right direction and after initial confusion, worked out where I was and got to control, again some wasted time.
Not sure on lots of route choices? All seemed to result in me going up or down a steep, rocky slope.

MTBO race 25:54 [5] 5.0 km (5:11 / km) +100m 4:43 / km
ahr:161 max:174

NZ MTBO Champs - Sprint. 3rd? Complex and hilly for a sprint. Too many little hesitations for decisions.
Not into scale rode just past planned intersection for 1, then in wrong gear so bit of running, think 3rd fastest s0lits so not much lost?
Again missed intended turn to 2, took next track, little lost time?
Wasn’t sure about legal fence crossing on way to 4 so hesitated a bit and took what knew was legal, several people crossed where I didn’t.
Changed mind on way to 6, little lost time.
Poor route to 7.
Missed track into 8, but went through clear area
Tracks around 12 slightly confused me going into 12 and out to 13.
Track out of 14 and through clear was difficult to see/follow.

MTBO 27:00 [3] 5.6 km (4:49 / km) +75m 4:31 / km
ahr:151 max:168

NZ MTBO Champs - Model event for middle distance map. Lots of open farmland. Will need navigation concentration and compass use.
