GMR to East Fork to Hwy 39 to Islip Saddle to Dawson Saddle to Wrightwood and back.
I decided at the last minute pulling into the parking lot at Glendora High School I wanted to push the limits a tad as I will not be biking with Art next week at the Cookie Fondo because my daughter has a softball tournament that weekend. I held back heading up GMR as I knew this was going to be a long day and I didn't want to blow my wad. The weather was very cold on back side of GMR descending and on East Fork (about 50), once I hit Hwy 39 and began to climb I felt much better. Once I got to close section just above Crystal Lake turnoff I kept my head on a swivel looking for CHP. After getting through the bad section and onto Hwy 2 the road was open all the way to Wrightwood. I got a few guys climbing to Dawson's Saddle and then began my decent. I did not realize the Pacific Coast Trail Runs through part of Hwy 2, there were at least 50 cars parked at a turnout parking lot for hiking. After the decent for 5-6 miles back to climbing to Grassy Hallow and I stopped to use the bathroom at the Nature Center. Did not realize I was almost to the Blue Ridge, which descends to Mountain High and onward to Wrightwood. Stopped at the gas station in Wrightwood (probably the only one) and got a soda and candy bar and turned around and headed back. Once I got about 2 miles from Dawson's I began felling it. Made it down to East Fork and stopped again at Camp Williams Cafe for a soda and a candy bar. On my way up the backside of GMR, I was just trying to hold a steady easy pace as I was not feeling it as the temperature was now 103, once I got past the shack, I was so happy I just soft peddle to the car.
