Running 1:08:00 [3] 7.5 mi (9:04 / mi)
slept:5.75 shoes: Wave Creation 6

Started at 3:50 am; Smith Hill road-Daniels road-Garretts hill road-Brook road, drizzling, heavier rain in last 1.5 miles

Nice run, easy relaxed pace.

Running 1:00:55 [3] 7.5 mi (8:07 / mi)
shoes: Asics DS Trainer

PM run, started at 4:40 pm; Days Inn treadmill in State College

I'm not sure about the display working right on the TM, that's pretty fast, though there was a fan (normally I don't have that) so I was more comfortable, and I am figuring out how to run the TM better. I'll take it, but not sure about the "handicapped" machine.

Running 1:04:17 [3] 7.5 mi (8:34 / mi)

Very good run, pushed a hard pace.

Friday Feb 25, 2011 #

Running 2:11:00 [3] 13.25 mi (9:53 / mi)
slept:5.5 shoes: La Sportiva Fireblades

30 deg. Started at 4:04 am; Raining, roads had wet snow/slush on them, messy; Honesdale loop

Run was decent, rain with slushy roads was tough...cold wet feet, hands stinging, soaked completely through.

Thursday Feb 24, 2011 #

Running 1:16:39 [3] 9.0 mi (8:31 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: Asics DS Trainer

Started at 1:50 pm; Treadmill running

Solid run, held a harder pace...I'm out of "fast" running shape.

Tuesday Feb 22, 2011 #

Running 1:50:00 [3] 12.0 mi (9:10 / mi)
slept:5.75 shoes: Wave Nirvana

6-2 deg. Breezy; Started at 4:04 am; Around block 2x (Smith Hill rd way 1x, LaTourette way 1x)

Good run, legs were feeling the miles toward end, wind was stinging the exposed part of my face when I was out of the woods.

Monday Feb 21, 2011 #

Running 1:26:00 [3] 8.5 mi (10:07 / mi)
slept:6.5 shoes: La Sportiva Fireblades

20 deg. Started at 4:52 am; Smith Hill Road-Around Bunnells Pond-Garretts Hill road-Brook road; Snowing, roads covered and not plowed in most spots.

Fun relaxed, "no-agenda" run. Good workout in the snow.

Sunday Feb 20, 2011 #

Note
slept:8.0 (rest day)

Got up, but wind was blowing very hard, not that ambitious today.

Saturday Feb 19, 2011 #

Running 48:42 [3] 5.5 mi (8:51 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: Wave Nirvana

Treadmill running.

Felt very good, no pain, steady pace, overall very nice run.

Friday Feb 18, 2011 #

Note
slept:8.0 (rest day)

Still healing, mentally I'm ready to go.

Thursday Feb 17, 2011 #

Note
slept:8.0 (rest day)

Healing up quite nicely...muscle pain is gone, foot swelling is down almost to normal, blister pain is on the mend, only problem is both big toenails, which still hurt. I'd be ready to run if I didn't have so much raw skin all over my feet and toes...we'll see how it is in a couple days.

Saturday Feb 12, 2011 #

Running 10:00:00 [3] 50.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 305

First fifty miles of Winter Beast of Burden...splitting the enty so I can account for miles run/shoes. Switched to dry shoes after 50 miles.

Running 13:36:46 [3] 50.0 mi (16:20 / mi)
shoes: La Sportiva Wildcats

Last 50 miles of Winter Beast of Burden. Total time 23:36:46. 4th overall, will update the other information later.

Course was very difficult, loose packed snow, and the wind for a good part of the day kept drifting in any packed down path that had formed, so we had to keep breaking a new trail in drifted snow. Cold, wet feet for the entire race, which gave me major blisters on the top of both feet and around my toes. I may have gotten slight frostbite, judging from some pictures I've seen online, hard to tell.

Body temperature was not an issue, the layers I chose (long sleeve compression shirt, long sleeve tech shirt, NRC tech jacket, and for 1 loop I added a long sleeve cotton shirt) worked fine, I was actually a little warm at times. Wore balclava and wool hat, cotton jersey gloves, white cotton gloves, and tech mittens (on and off throughout).

Overall, very happy to get the finish. I think I was a little undertrained, and faced more mental struggles than any other ultra to date, but that's what I was looking for!!

Slept very solid last night.

Tuesday Feb 8, 2011 #

Running 2:03:00 [3] 13.25 mi (9:17 / mi)
slept:5.75 shoes: La Sportiva Fireblades

33 deg. Started at 3:52 am; Honesdale loop; Snowing, at least 2 inches on roads.

Very nice run, steady pace, but didn't feel like I was pushing it at all. Stopped to talk with an older gentleman shovelling his driveway on Brook road, I think he just wanted to complain to someone about the weather.

Monday Feb 7, 2011 #

Note
slept:7.5 (rest day)

Too tired to run...taking it easy this week, kind of like the whole month of January.

Sunday Feb 6, 2011 #

slept:8.0 shoes: Addidas Adistar Control

38 deg. Started at 2:00 pm; Smith Hill road-Daniels road-Garretts Hill road-Brook road

Nice run, warm weather was wonderful. Only downfall was dodging traffic.

Thursday Feb 3, 2011 #

Running 1:13:00 [3] 7.5 mi (9:44 / mi)
slept:6.0 shoes: La Sportiva Fireblades

13 deg. Breezy; Started at 4:58 am; Around block (LaTourette way) + Out and Back on Daniels road

Overslept, don't even remember hearing the alarm, but was able to get out for this. Very cold when running into the wind (didn't wear balclava).

Wednesday Feb 2, 2011 #

Running 41:38 [3] 4.5 mi (9:15 / mi)
shoes: Asics DS Trainer

Treadmill; Started at 8:15 pm

That's all I had energy for after a long day.

Tuesday Feb 1, 2011 #

Running 2:50:00 [3] 18.0 mi (9:27 / mi)
slept:5.0 shoes: Wave Inspire 4

12 deg. Started at 3:04 am; Around block 3x (Smith Hill road way 2x, LaTourette way 1x) Snowing, hard for most of it, stinging granular snow, roads had 2-3 inches on them

Very good run, had to go slower since roads weren't plowed, good Beast training. When I ran into the headwind the snow stung my face bad enough I almost quit many times.

Very thankful that Alice literally pushed me out of bed when the alarm went off at 2:30, otherwise I wouldn't have made it out.
