Operation "only run until I start to feel my knees hurting so as to slowly build up to decent distances" has commenced. Really frustrating to only run this short of a distance, but if it means I can do it a few times a week (vs. not being able to walk down stairs for 3 days by running twice as much) it'll be worth it.
