Hike with pack 3:45:00 [2] 12.0 mi (18:45 / mi) +2200ft 15:59 / mi

Hike up the Fourth of July road and Arapahoe Pass trail. The road had been plowed, but there is still a ton of snow...up to 10 feet above the road in spots! Lots of postholing on the trail, but it was a beautiful day and great to get up to 11,000+ feet when it wasn't snowing and we could actually see the mountains.

Running 1:55:00 [4] 9.0 mi (12:47 / mi) +1900ft 10:39 / mi
shoes: Badrock Orange

Uphill tempo at Mt. Falcon. Hiked uphill for 15 min to warm up, then ran uphill 30 min to the shelter. Since I missed the segment run this week, we kept going past the shelter for another 15 min before turning around. Then ran down easy. The wildflowers were incredible.

Walking 30:00 [0] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)

Spent the day with my father. No running.

Friday May 27, 2011 #

Walking 30:00 [0] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)

Walking the dogs - really tired from being in the hospital with my dad the last several days. Stupidly twisted my ankle on a random rock on the sidewalk. :(

Running 1:15:00 [2] 8.0 mi (9:22 / mi)
shoes: Badrock Orange

Easy run - ankle hurt pretty bad, not up for anything harder than just an easy run.

Hike with pack 2:00:00 [3]

Hiking all around Devil's Head looking for a sheltered place to climb.

Climbing 3:00:00 [3]

It was pretty cold, so we stuck to easier routes. Will definitely go back to Devil's Head soon - what a great area.

Walking 1:30:00 [0] 4.5 mi (20:00 / mi)

Hiking 1:45:00 [1] 4.0 mi (26:15 / mi)

Leisurely hike with Mindy, Kya, and Loki at Alderfer.

Running 1:15:00 [4] 7.0 mi (10:43 / mi)
shoes: NB 1225 #2

Up/down workout at Ruby Hill. Ran easy from the house to warm up, then did enough hill intervals (each 1:30-2:00 since Ruby Hill is pretty short!) to make 20 minutes of uphill running. Ran hard enough that I had to stop at the top of the hill, took 30 seconds to catch my breath, and ran back down hard. Recovered for a minute or two before the next one (total time doesn't include rests). Then ran home easy.

Running 5:00:00 [2] 16.5 mi (18:11 / mi) +5750ft 13:40 / mi
shoes: Badrock

Long run in Boulder. Mesa trail to Shadow Canyon, up Bear Peak, down Fern Canyon, NCAR mesa, and the Mesa back to Chautauqua. Cold, wet, and muddy! Several inches of very slippery slushy snow towards the top of Bear Peak slowed us down quite a bit. Definitely type 2 fun.

Running 1:00:00 [2] 6.2 mi (9:41 / mi)
shoes: NB 1225 #2

Started a TM workout - only got 10 minutes into it before my stomach started cramping up again and couldn't finish. Rested for a few minutes then just went outside for an easy run. That seemed to work better - some stomach pain but I managed to get a decent run in.

Running 13:05:00 [3] 50.0 mi (15:42 / mi) +9400ft 13:20 / mi
shoes: Badrock

Collegiate Peaks 50 with Holly. Started off well...I treated it like a long training run and walked the big hills from the start. A couple of hours in, I started getting bad abdominal cramps - kind of like a side stitch but lower. I've never had this happen before, and I'm not sure why it happened. It was relatively hot, so I started taking a Succeed tab every half hour from the beginning. Every time I tried to run faster, the cramps would get worse, which was frustrating because my legs felt fine. Made the turnaround cutoff by only 15 minutes. After the halfway point, Holly started getting bad cramps also. At the next aid station, we just barely missed the cutoff, and by the next one, we were 5 minutes over. They let us keep going, knowing that we were unsupported to the end. The last 10 miles were pretty much a death march - nonstop cramps, and Holly was vomiting. But we made it to the end and had fun along the way. An "unofficial finish" at an hour over the cutoff.

Running 45:00 [3] 5.2 mi (8:39 / mi)
shoes: Fastwitch

Mini cruise intervals. Ran easy to Harvard Gulch track, then did 3x5 min at tempo pace with 2 min easy jog in between. My pacing was definitely off - goal pace was 7:55, did the first interval at 7:09 pace! Tried to slow down for the second and did 7:30 pace. For the last one, I figured since I was feeling good and only had one more to do, pushed it a little harder and did 7:09 again. Ran home to cool down.
