Running 18:00:00 [3] 47.0 mi (22:59 / mi)

Pacing at the Bear. Paced from Temple Fork to Ranger Dip (Bruce paced to the finish). Everything was going really well and we were gaining time on Jane's splits, until somewhere around Beaver Lodge. The rain started early, but it wasn't bad and it stayed warm for a long time, so I think we got a bit complacent. In retrospect, we probably should have picked up some warmer clothes at Beaver Lodge. It started pouring and the temp dropped and the wind picked up. Jane was shivering and was thinking of turning around after Gibson Basin. There was no real shelter at that aid station so I didn't think stopping there was a good idea. We just had to keep moving to stay warm. Spent a little bit of time at Beaver Creek getting her warm and then we kept moving. The mud made it really hard to keep a good pace, too. We had to walk some sections that should have been runnable. But all in all, it was a great race. I think that, had the conditions been better, Jane might have been able to break 30 hours.
