Orienteering race 2:16:00 [4] ***** 12.91 km (10:32 / km) +280m 9:30 / km
shoes: Walsh PB Fell

Technically hardest race, length-wise longest run, and overall the most back to back days orienteering I've done to date. Argh! Kind of fed up with orienteering a bit. Three days is as of yet too much for me, as was doing M21L.
As for the race, lovely running in the sand dunes. Most fun terrain out of all orienteering places I've been to. Shame my navigation wasn't up for the challenge. Took me until searching for c3 for 10 minutes to figure out the difference between marsh and lake. At least I learned something from today.
Then got really tired half-way through, stopped concentrating and messed up about 8 controls in a row. My contour reading and path following let me down, just wasn't mentally there at all.
Was quite surprised I was only one position down on saturday at 25/34 and 31mins behind winner.

Orienteering race 1:37:10 [4] **** 10.96 km (8:52 / km) +215m 8:04 / km
shoes: Walsh PB Fell

I probably would've done better with a hillier course. Mud all galore, standing around helping at starts in the rain a sure way to dampen morale. Started off strong, enjoying the run. However controls weren't going as quick as at BUCS, so was getting disappointed. Then ballsed up 19 insanely badly (about 8-9mins) and the rest just trudged through in the cold.. Normally would've enjoyed all the mud, but not today.
Lessons learned: wear more clothes, do shorter courses at big events until am confident enough for 33 control races, there is a big difference between a path and an earthbank...
24/34 26mins behind winner.

Event: JK 2010

Orienteering race (Sprint) 21:21 [2] ** 3.2 km (6:40 / km) +40m 6:17 / km
shoes: Walsh PB Fell

My first proper sprint race went really well apart from a 1 minute howler in the middle. I had three quickest splits and three 2nd quickest splits. After control 9 I was in 2nd place overall 8s behind Joe Taunton. Very pleased. Then hit the college bit and got confused at 11. Messed up 12 as well, pulled myself together and had a great finish. Well apart from mistaking road for fence and being very hesitant approaching penultimate control in front of spectators. 13/90 just over 2 and a half mins behind winner.
Didn't feel like I had pushed my sprinting very hard. I.e. could've ran faster, though not sure whether I could've navigated faster.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Some good warming up and warming down leaving me feeling positive before and after race.

Easy run around the downs with Erinna. A good loosener for the upcoming weekend.
