Slabtown to Heathcote, 49min. upstream & back. Tried to keep the speed above 12kph on the way back down, which basically means intervals on the calmer stretches with rests in the rapids.

Was thinking of Phatty on this glorious cool fall day paddling in the rain.......

Canadian National Champs, Long
Felt a bit off at the start.....I'm thinking a warm-up with a map in hand would be ideal for these types of events. Was hoping to average 10kph, but didn't come close. Perhaps that may have been a bit ambitious for the course. Made 1 to 3 minute errors at controls 3, 11 & 19, all were honing-in problems, either going too fast, or being overly confident and running the wrong way. Some great route choices throughout. Really great terrain and course and great practice navigating under pressure at speed. Amazing to see only 2 seconds separating 1st & 2nd.....
