Adventure Race race 9:00:00 [3]

ARC 8 hour

Katie wasn't feeling too flash to start with so we skipped the first rogaine point (worth 30 minutes) as we figured there's be a few optional ones later that we could pick up, not to be. Never mind, it was quite a long ride then push to the top of the hill without it so not all that unhappy that we missed the extra slog to the optional ;-)

Nice blast downhill before heading off to the paintball... we weren't too good at this and quickly got picked off! I got winged when I was checking to see where the sniper was (before I managed to let a round off) and Katie got hit not too long afterwards. As it was only my right arm that got hit I could have carried on ("It's just a flesh wound!") but rules are rules so no points there. It took ~30 minutes as there was a bit of a bottleneck but nice to have a wee rest.

Next was the rifles where, as first time shooters, we both managed to get max points in the rifle shoot - 10 dead duckies in a row.

Off to the trek with the river dive, mine and waterfall dive - I also had a misstep in the river and went for another half swim (along with hamstring cramps!)

Back to base (via a canel crossing with bike on a tube) and then MTB up the road for a bit of coasteering (without the bike) and back to base in time to crack 9 hours.

I handled everything much better than Cambridge (where I was pretty much stuffed for most of the day). A few factors: it was not as long; there were a number of shorter stages to break things up; even with my leg injury I'd got a lot more cycling in before hand; it was nowhere near as hot; I was drinking (dilute) replace rather than water which seems to have helped me get more liquid in.

All good fun :-) Wonder what's next?

Run 34:00 [3]

Blurrkkk...

Heavy, dead legs and no get up and go. Very quickly canned the idea of going up Mt Eden and opted for a sluggish jog around the domain until I'd had enough and walked back to work.

Maybe feeling it from yesterday's cycling as I did put a bit more pace on

Road bike (commute) 54:00 [3]

Stuck my ayup's on both bikes last night and helmet and tried them out this morning. You'd think that cars would see me with two lightsets blasting out wouldn't you? Nah, I could have been a truck and the ^%$#&'er wouldn't see me. Why? Because I swear he never looked to the right once!! How on earth can you stop at a tee intersection and pull out to turn right without looking right? I guess it's much easier to do if you're asian...

The good news is that with a sideways slide I managed to slip around behind him without making contact. I guess the huge quantities (and volume) of expletives might have encouraged him to at least try to get out of my way...

A reminder of what I already knew - no matter what, on a bike you're *never* visible enough.

Road bike 26:00 [3]

To physio and back. Last visit (at least until the next injury), all is well :-D

Think I need to install a new idiot sensor though, just about got wiped out by an opening car door. Of course it could just be me that's the idiot...

I wonder if someone will actually manage to knock me off on the way home rather than just having a (very) close call???

Road bike (commute) 59:00 [3]

Just about hit the trifecta - woman came flying through a stop sign without pause just in front of me - had ~2m to spare so I guess it wasn't *really* close.
I shouldn't take it too personally, she completely ignored the next two stop signs as well...
